DC Movie Story Explained

DC is not a conventional romantic drama. The Tamil romantic action thriller combines brutal gangster violence with an emotional story about two damaged people searching for a chance to start over.

The film stars Lokesh Kanagaraj as Devadas, also known as Das, and Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the movie takes inspiration from the classic Devdas story but transforms it into a much darker world of gangsters, corrupt police officers and revenge.

The story begins with Das, a feared gangster whose relationship with his father Gautam has been broken for years.

Das and his gang become wanted criminals after attacking a police van and stealing weapons. But the movie soon establishes that the police themselves are far from innocent.

A man named Hari Om sells his land and carries ₹7 lakh that he intends to use for his son's education. Corrupt policemen steal the money and kill him. When Hari Om's family cannot get justice through the system, they approach Das.

Das finds the policemen responsible and brutally takes revenge.

That decision puts him directly in the path of police officer Bhojraj, who becomes determined to hunt Das and his gang down.

Das Meets Parvathi

While hiding from the police, Das stays at a lodge where he meets Parvathi, a singer.

Something about her immediately attracts him. Their relationship develops slowly, and for a brief period Das experiences something very different from his violent criminal life.

Parvathi represents the possibility of love and normality.

But it doesn't last.

When the police discover Das's location, a violent confrontation breaks out. During the attack, Parvathi is shot and killed.

Her death changes Das completely.

Whatever possibility he had of finding peace disappears, and his journey becomes even darker.

Who Is Chandra in DC?

Later, Das enters a brothel and meets Chandra.

Chandra has spent around 18 years trapped in exploitation and abuse. She was brought there when she was young and has barely experienced life outside those walls.

When Das hears her story, he does something she never expected.

He helps her escape.

Das attacks the men controlling the women and frees Chandra along with the others. When he tells Chandra that she can leave, however, she explains that she has nowhere to go.

So she joins Das and his gang.

This becomes the most important relationship in the second half of DC.

Why Does Chandra Kill the Doctor?

One of the movie's darkest revelations concerns Chandra's past.

After escaping, she begins helping Das obtain money by blackmailing powerful men who had previously visited her.

Eventually, Chandra visits a doctor.

But she isn't there for money.

She brutally kills him.

When Das discovers what happened, Chandra finally explains the reason.

According to her, the doctor was responsible for an operation that destroyed her ability to become a mother. Even worse, she remembers him treating her suffering as something insignificant.

Chandra had dreamed of escaping, getting married, having children and living an ordinary life.

That possibility had been violently taken away from her.

Killing the doctor is therefore Chandra's revenge against one of the people responsible for destroying the future she once imagined.

Das and Chandra Begin to Change Each Other

At first, some members of Das's gang distrust Chandra.

Kitty believes her presence will create problems, while Chunnilal has both selfish intentions and an inappropriate interest in her.

But Chandra repeatedly proves her loyalty.

When Das is arrested again, some members of his gang consider abandoning him.

Chandra refuses.

She insists that if their positions were reversed, Das would never leave them behind.

Chandra eventually helps organize an attack on the police station and rescues Das.

One of the film's most important emotional moments comes when an inspector repeatedly insults Chandra because of her past.

Das refuses to accept it.

For him, she is no longer defined by the place where she was imprisoned or by what other men did to her.

Her name is Chandra.

That moment shows how deeply their relationship has changed.

Das saved Chandra physically, but Chandra begins saving Das emotionally.

Chunnilal's Betrayal

The gang's problems become worse when it is revealed that Chunnilal is a traitor.

He is interested in both Chandra and the gang's money.

During another confrontation, Chunnilal attempts to escape with Chandra and the cash.

He badly underestimates her.

Chandra fights back, kills Chunnilal and returns to Das with the money.

Even Kitty, who had constantly warned Das about trusting Chandra, finally begins to understand how fiercely loyal she is.

Das Finally Meets His Father

Before the final battle, Das decides to visit his estranged father.

Their relationship had fallen apart because of Das's violent past.

Years earlier, Gautam's wife had been murdered over a property dispute. Gautam had chosen not to take revenge because he wanted to give his son a better future.

Das made the opposite choice.

He killed those responsible and went to prison.

His father never forgave him.

However, Hari Om's father gives Gautam another perspective.

When the police themselves murdered Hari Om and refused to provide justice, Das was the person who helped the family.

Das may be a criminal, but in a world where the authorities themselves have become corrupt, his morality is more complicated than simply good versus evil.

Das eventually meets his father and returns the money intended for Hari Om's son's education.

Their conversation does not magically repair everything, but it gives them something they haven't had for years:

a possibility of reconciliation.

DC Movie Ending Explained

The final confrontation takes place after Das and his gang lure Bhojraj and his police force into a trap.

Kitty fights the officers but becomes seriously injured.

Just when it appears that the gang may be overwhelmed, Das arrives.

A brutal final battle follows.

Das and Chandra fight together against the police, and Das eventually kills Bhojraj, ending the manhunt that has followed him through much of the movie.

After the battle, Das and Chandra take the injured Kitty to his younger brother.

This leads to an important final conversation.

Kitty had spent much of the story believing Chandra was dangerous for Das. But after seeing everything she has done for him, Kitty finally admits that he was wrong.

He tells Das, in effect, that as long as Chandra remains beside him, nobody will easily destroy him.

Then Das and Chandra leave together.

Do Das and Chandra End Up Together?

Yes — Das and Chandra are together at the end of DC.

However, the movie does not give them a traditional romantic ending with marriage or a perfectly settled future.

Instead, they simply leave together.

Their destination is uncertain, but emotionally the message is clear.

Both characters have spent their lives surrounded by violence.

Das lost Parvathi and spent years separated from his father. Chandra lost her freedom, dignity and the ordinary future she once dreamed about.

When they meet, neither of them can erase the other's past.

What they can do is choose what comes next.

That is why the ending is ultimately more hopeful than tragic.

Das gives Chandra freedom, while Chandra gives Das a reason to imagine life beyond violence.

What Does the DC Ending Mean?

The ending suggests that DC is ultimately about second chances.

Chandra cannot recover the 18 years that were stolen from her.

Das cannot undo his crimes or bring Parvathi back.

Neither character receives a perfect resolution.

But they survive.

More importantly, they choose each other.

The final image of Das and Chandra leaving together therefore isn't simply the ending of a gangster story. It represents two people with deeply damaged pasts finally getting an opportunity to write a different future.

Whether that future remains peaceful is deliberately left open.

For now, however, Das and Chandra have escaped the people hunting and controlling them — and they are beginning their new life together.
