Dating Shows

On Netflix

Netflix has exploded with the amount of reality content that they have been cranking out and none of it is good. However a lot of it is super messy and isn’t that what we all want from our reality tv? Reality takes no brain cells to consume or produce and that is why there is so much of it. Netflix and other streaming services can produce reality tv for basically nothing and they always find people who need just the most therapy making the season of whatever it is very entertaining for those of us that have done the therapy. So here we go, the worst (but best) reality tv shows from Netflix.

First up we of course have Love is Blind. Now this theoretically started as a social experiment trying to determine if love is in fact blind. Now the concept isn’t necessarily bad but the execution is terrible. And after season 1 and definitely season 2 I am pretty sure that we had established that love is definitely not blind. And yet here we are on season 5. And then this season they had two people that had dated already before the show started, and I am so sorry but there is no way that the production team did not know that. And to make matters messier we have the fact that this show and Netflix recently underwent a lawsuit and a lot of public scrutiny because of how it treated cast members and lacked in taking care of their basic needs. We also just have the worst hosts in the world in Nick and Vanessa Lachey. Last year Vanessa was like on one during the reunion and absolutely nothing qualifies these two to host a show, their marriage is clearly for publicity. I’m not sure how anyone can stand her. They really don’t help mitigate the drama on this show at all which somehow makes it worse.

If you want super duper messy then we have got to talk about The Ultimatum. So the premise of this show is that in each couple one person has issued an ultimatum involving marriage. They come on the show with the agreement that they are going to break up and live with other people to find out if they want to marry the person they came with or stay broken up. So first of all that is the messiest thing I have ever heard. “I’m not sure I want to get married so let’s date around and after a month we’ll see if I still want you” WHAT. That is insane and the show plays out just as messy as it sounds. The Queer love season was also terrible. This show proves that if you and your relationship is toxic enough to issue an ultimatum then you shouldn’t be in that relationship. Also if you would agree to go on this show you shouldn’t be in any relationship except for maybe a patient-doctor relationship with a therapist.

Moving on to one of the weirdest tv shows in existence, Dated and Related. Single siblings help each other hook up. Yes that is as weird as it sounds, there is no way for that to play out where it isn’t a little creepy. And there is a cash prize which definitely makes it weirder. For some reason finding love and $100,000 go hand in hand according to Netflix.

These shows are definitely super messy and have major issues. But if you want to feel better about your own personal state of mind or your relationship these shows are a highly entertaining watch. White wine required.
