Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley is continuing to grow as a performer and now has another role to show us that she is one of the best actors of her generation. She is now confirmed as a lead role in the movie The Marsh King's Daughter, an adaptation of Karen Dionne's hit psychological-thriller novel.

As per a report from Deadline, the British actress will play Helena, the daughter of the “Marsh King,” the man who kept her and her mother captive in wilderness for many years. She is living a normal life now and trying to escape from her past, but her father escapes from prison and now she has to confront him while she is helping the police to find him.

The movie is going to be directed by Neil Burger, known for movies like Divergent, Limitless, The Illusionist, and others. Also attached to this adaptation are The Revenant screenwriters Mark L Smith and Elle Smith.

The book by Karen Dionne is a psychological thriller and is an international bestseller that won the Barry Award for Best Novel at Bouchercon 2018. The book's blurb details:

“notorious child abductor, “The Marsh King,” escapes from a maximum security prison in Michigan’s remote Upper Peninsula wilderness, Helena Pelletier is sure she can use the hunting and tracking skills she learned as a child to find him. After all, no one is The Marsh King’s equal when it comes to navigating the marshland—except Helena herself, his daughter. But as Helena hunts her father to return him to prison, gradually she realizes that his escape is the first step in an elaborate scheme to kidnap her and her two young daughters. As their cat and quarry game unfolds, she must use all of her wilderness skills not only to thwart his plan, but to survive it.”

The producers of the project will be Teddy Schwarzman (who was one of the producers of the movie The Imitation Game), Keith Redmon, and Mark L. Smith (both from The Revenant).

The storyline sounds similar to The Room, starring by Brie Larson, who also won an academy award for this role. For now, there is no further casting revealed yet, because the project is in the beginning of the production, but the filming is set to begin in the summer in Canada.

As we know, Daisy Ridley just signed to play the role of a long distance swimmer Trudy Ederle in a movie for Disney +. She will also be seen with Tom Holland in the sci-fi movie Chaos Walking, an adaptation of the first book from Patrick Ness' trilogy. Ridley stars as Viola, a mysterious girl who is discovered by Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) after she lands on his planet, a place where women have disappeared and men have their thoughts put on a display by a force known as “The Noise.”

With these movies in development and soon to be released, we hope she finds her own way to continue being recognized as an good actress that she is, showing her versatility to the world. Maybe she could end up being nominated and win an academy award in the future. But in between roles, we always remember Daisy Ridley as Rey from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and we wish her the best on her journey through her career. The Force is strong with her.
