Dacoit: A Love Story is an action drama built around love, betrayal, revenge and sacrifice. The film follows Hari, a man who spends years in prison believing that the woman he loved destroyed his life.

But by the time Hari finally learns the truth, revenge is no longer what he wants.

The story begins during the COVID-19 period in 2021. Hari has spent around 13 years behind bars. Prison has changed him completely, and he has only one major goal after escaping: finding his former lover Saraswati, also known as Juliet, and taking revenge.

Hari believes Saraswati betrayed him when she gave a statement against him years earlier.

But their relationship was once completely different.

How Did Hari and Saraswati Fall in Love?

Years earlier, Hari met Saraswati at a blood donation camp. Their first meeting slowly developed into friendship and eventually love.

Despite coming from different social backgrounds, Hari and Saraswati planned to stay together and eventually marry.

Everything changed on Saraswati's birthday.

Hari's friend Malli was attacked by Saraswati's brother and others. Hari intervened, and during the violent confrontation Saraswati's brother was killed.

Hari was arrested.

What broke Hari emotionally was not only his imprisonment but Saraswati's testimony. She publicly accused him and even claimed that she barely knew him.

Hari never understood why the woman who loved him would suddenly turn against him.

Hari Escapes From Prison

With the help of Ishaq Bhai, Hari manages to escape while prisoners are being transferred during the pandemic.

His original plan is simple: find Saraswati and make her pay.

But when Hari finally sees her after 13 years, everything becomes complicated.

Saraswati now has a daughter named Chinni and is connected to Bhaskar. Hari also discovers that an enormous amount of money is needed for a heart transplant.

Meanwhile, Hari learns about corruption surrounding Karuna Hospitals and its illegal financial activities.

That gives him an idea.

Instead of simply attacking Saraswati, Hari asks her to help him rob the hospital.

He promises that she will receive the money she desperately needs.

Their first attempt does not go according to plan, and much of the money is lost.

They decide to try again.

This time, Hari and Saraswati manage to steal a huge amount of cash. But security guards and police soon begin chasing them.

At one point, Saraswati escapes with the money while Hari is caught by the guards.

For a moment, Hari believes history has repeated itself.

He thinks she has betrayed him again.

But Saraswati returns with a gun and saves him.

That single moment begins changing Hari's feelings. He realizes that no matter how hard he tries, he still cannot truly hate her.

Why Did Saraswati Betray Hari 13 Years Ago?

This is where one of the film's biggest twists arrives.

Hari eventually confronts Bhaskar, while police officer Swamy investigates the old case by speaking to Malli.

The truth reveals that Saraswati never wanted Hari to die.

Bhaskar had feelings for Saraswati and helped create the circumstances that destroyed Hari's life. After the violent incident involving Saraswati's brother and Malli, powerful people around Saraswati planned to have Hari killed.

Saraswati was essentially given a terrible choice.

If she supported Hari, he could be killed.

If she testified against him, he would remain alive in prison.

She chose the second option.

Her betrayal was therefore not driven by hatred. She lied because she believed it was the only way to save Hari's life.

Hari has spent more than a decade hating a woman who had actually sacrificed her relationship with him to keep him alive.

The Heart Transplant Twist

Hari then discovers another major secret.

The heart transplant everyone appears to believe is for Bhaskar is actually connected to Saraswati's serious heart condition.

Once Hari understands that Saraswati's life is in danger, his priorities completely change.

Revenge disappears.

Saving her becomes everything.

Saraswati attempts another robbery to obtain the money necessary for her treatment, but she becomes trapped. Hari arrives and rescues her.

Eventually, the pair find themselves surrounded by police.

Hari knows that Saraswati must escape and reach the hospital.

He gives her the money and stays behind.

Does Hari Die in Dacoit: A Love Story?

Yes. Hari dies in the climax.

Police surround him and repeatedly ask him to surrender. Hari instead creates a situation in which he is shot.

Before dying, he asks Swamy to look after his “Juliet” — Saraswati — and Chinni.

But Hari's final sacrifice is much bigger than it initially appears.

Saraswati successfully undergoes her heart transplant.

And then comes the emotional final revelation.

Whose Heart Does Saraswati Receive?

Saraswati receives Hari's heart.

Hari could not spend his life with the woman he loved, but his heart literally continues living inside her.

The revelation transforms the entire meaning of the ending.

Hari entered the story wanting revenge because he believed Saraswati had destroyed his life.

He leaves it by giving her life.

That is why the film ultimately becomes less about revenge and more about unconditional love, forgiveness and sacrifice.

What Happens to Bhaskar?

After recovering, Saraswati finally learns the full truth about Bhaskar and his involvement in destroying Hari's life.

She confronts him publicly and refuses to continue pretending that nothing happened.

She also places a photograph of herself with Hari on the wall, openly acknowledging the man she truly loved.

But the movie has one final emotional surprise.

Chinni shows Saraswati a locket Hari had given her.

Inside it is a ring.

Saraswati realizes Hari had planned to propose to her all those years ago.

She puts on the ring, while Hari's heart continues beating inside her.

Dacoit: A Love Story Ending Meaning

The ending completes Hari's transformation.

At first, he believes revenge will heal the pain of betrayal.

Instead, learning the truth makes him understand that Saraswati never stopped caring about him.

Hari finally chooses her life over his own freedom.

The title Dacoit: A Love Story therefore becomes especially meaningful. Beneath its robberies, action and police chases, the film is ultimately about a love that survives imprisonment, separation, misunderstanding and even death.

Hari may not get the life with Saraswati that he once dreamed about, but in the film's final and most emotional twist, his heart remains with her forever.
