Convention Tips
For those new to cosplay or who need it
Here are a few tips I have for those attending conventions for those who are going to cons. Whether this is your first con or you might need a reminder. I know I can use some reminders sometimes.
Tip 1: Buy your con ticket early
Buying your ticket early ensures you get your ticket at a cheaper price. This ensures you get your ticket at a cheaper price, the longer you wait the more your ticket will cost. This is a good way to save some money for the con.
Tip 2: Book your hotel early.
Booking your hotel early ensures you have a room, or rooms if you have a big group. Some hotels book fast during some cons. It depends on the time frame around the con and the location around the con as well.
Tip 3: Make sure you stay hydrated.
Some people forget to stay hydrated during cons. This can lead to dehydration and even some headaches or worse. I would recommend bringing a water bottle to drink as you explore the con. You want to make sure you stay hydrated as you explore to make sure you can still have a good time at the con.
Tip 4: Make sure you eat food
Most people forget to eat while at cons, in fact, I sometimes forget to eat as well. I would recommend bringing snacks to munch on while you’re walking around the con. Have a few meals, I get that sometimes food can be pricey at so I also recommend bringing some food to your hotel to make your dinner just in case.
Tip 5: Go as a group (If you want that is.)
I go with a group of friends as I go to cons, it helps my anxiety to know I’m with people I know. Also, the cons are more fun with friends anyways. You can cosplay together and explore the con together as well. You can make new memories together as well.
Tip 6: Bring safety pins
Safety pins can help with costume malfunctions, and help hold bows and other decorations onto your costume. They can help hold up your outfit if needed or even hold your costume together. You never know what might happen at a con.
Tip 7: Bring back up makeup and or wig caps
You might have to do makeup touch-ups or you might lose a wig cap and need an extra just in case. Cons can be hectic but fun so bringing a back up just in case is good.
Tip 8: Make sure you save up money
Me and my boyfriend tend to save a lot of money tend to save a bit more than we need for the con. We save up for the hotel pulse any fees, we save up for food and spending money. There is plenty of good things to buy at cons, so saving up is definitely recommended.
Tip 9: Keep an eye on the weather
Depending on when the con is, depends on the weather. It could be hot or cold, so I would recommend checking the weather and planing around it.
Tip 10: Bring some comfortable shoes and a change of clothes.
Some costume shoes can get uncomfortable, so I would recommend bringing a pair of backup shoes for your feet when they start to hurt. Also, bring a change of clothes to stay comfortable as well just in case you need to change.
Tip 11: Most importantly have fun
Cons are really fun, so don't worry too much about the con. Just have fun meet new people and make new memories.
