Coming to Netflix in September

Netflix's ambitious slate of original movies continues in September with big stars and big concepts.

Netflix promised that 2021 would be a year of original movies and shows EVERY week and their living up to that promise and more. In the month of September alone Netflix will debut 11 new feature length movies featuring well known stars and every genre imaginable. Here's a look at what the streaming giant has in store for the month of September...

September 2nd Afterlife of the Party - Starring Victoria Justice

Directed by Stephen Herek, known for comedies like Rock Star and The Mighty Ducks, Afterlife of the Party stars former Victorious Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice as a popular socialite who dies in a freak accident only to return as a ghost who must right the wrongs of her life to make it to heaven.

September 3rd Worth starring Michael Keaton

The third feature length directorial effort from Sara Colangelo, known for The Kindergarten Teacher, Worth stars Michael Keaton as a lawyer tasked with coming up with a formula to compensate the families of the victims of September 11th. The stacked cast includes Keaton, Stanley Tucci, and Amy Ryan.

September 9th Blood Brothers Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali Documentary

The new documentary Blood Brothers Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali examines the friendship and bond between the famed Muslim American spiritual leader and political activist Malcolm X and arguably the most famous athlete of the 20th century, Muhammad Ali. Based on Randy Roberts and Johnny Smith’s book Blood Brothers: The Fatal Friendship Between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X, the documentary arrives on Netflix as a product of their partnership with Producer Kenya Barris.

September 10th Kate starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Huntsman: Winter's War, Kate stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a dangerous hitman who gets poisoned. She has one day to live and take revenge on the person who doomed her to death. While she sets about taking revenge she also bonds with an unlikely figure, an innocent young girl. Kate Woody Harrelson co-stars along with young newcomer Miku Martineau.

September 15th Nightbooks starring Krysten Ritter

Directed by newcomer and first time feature director David Yarovesky, Nightbooks stars the former Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter, as a witch who threatens to hold a little boy and his best friend hostage unless he tells a scary story every night. Winslow Fegley, star of the Disney Plus movie, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made plays Alex and first time star Lidya Jewett as Yazmin, his best friend.

September 15th Schumacher Documentary

The trio of directors Hans-Bruno Kammertons, Vanessa Nocker and Michael Wech make their feature documentary debut by digging into the famed career of Formula 1 Champion Michael Schumacher. One of the most successful stars in car racing history, Schumacher's career was filled with dramatic twists and turns, including a nearly fatal skiing injury in 2013.

September 22nd Intrusion starring Freida Pinto

Intrusion comes from director Adam Salky and a script from Buried screenwriter Chris Sparling. The story follows a newly married couple played by Logan Marshall Green (Upgrade) and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), who move to a small town and become victims of a home invasion. In the aftermath husband and wife are left to wonder who in this small town may not be who they appear to be.

September 24th The Starling starring Melissa McCarthy

Directed by Hidden Figures director Theodore Melfi, The Starling stars Melissa McCarthy in the story of a married couple dealing with a tragedy who forms a bond with a psychologist turned veterinarian played by Kevin Kline, in his first starring role since Disney's live action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Chris O'Dowd plays McCarthy's husband and Timothy Olyphant and Daveed Diggs play supporting roles.

September 29th Sounds Like Love starring Maria Valverde

First time director Juana Macias directs this Spanish import, an adaptation of Elísabet Benavent's two-part book series Songs and Memories. Sounds Like Love stars Maria Valverde as a woman with a dead end job, as the assistant for an Instagram influencer, and a series of dead end relationships with men. Her life appeared to be going nowhere until the last great love her life, and the first man to truly break her heart, returns to her life.

September 29th No One Gets Out Alive starring Cristina Rodlo

An adaptation of horror novel No One Gets Out Alive by English author Adam Nevill, No One Gets Out Alive will mark the feature directing debut of visual effects artist Santiago Menghini. According to the plot of the book, the story stars Christina Rodlo as an immigrant woman who takes a room in a strange boarding house and finds herself wrapped up in some kind of nightmare out of her control.
