Captain Gorgeousness is ready for action

Alright... So Captain Fine Ass, I mean Captain Gorgeousness, NO! CAPTAIN MARVEL! There we go, Captain Marvel is a pretty good movie. I went to see, it despite all of the hate or "controversy" it's getting because it's Marvel and I obviously know about the character but not an awful lot. She's no Wonder Woman but still, I think she's pretty awesome.

So the movie starts with Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Room) waking up from a nightmare she was having, about her past living on Earth, and when she goes to her mentor, Yon-Rogg, played by Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) trains her in hand to hand combat, along with how to control her emotions while she fights. She goes by her Kree name, Vers and, lives on the planet Hala.

The Skrulls are the Kree's enemies since they want to take over the world and, they can shapeshift into anyone that they see. Vers gets captured while she's on a mission, and is hit with a lot of memories she has from being on Earth like being in the Air Force with her best friend, driving go-karts and getting scolded by her dad, training for the Air Force, etc.

When she wakes up, a really good action sequence happens where she fights the Skrulls, but her hands are bound and she can't use her powers so she has to free them, by punching everyone as hard as she can and from there, she and the Skrulls end up back on Earth, but in 1994. She lands in a Blockbuster video store and, later she meets Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Negotiator).

While she's on a Skrull hunt, Fury partners up with her and go to an Air Force base to find out more about why she's on Earth, but they also find out that Vers was with the Air Force and when things don't go as smooth as they thought, they go to Louisiana to find her best friend, Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls, Doctors) and it turns out that Skrulls aren't much of a threat as we initially thought.

Then, Vers finds out that her real name is Carol Danvers, and she was presumed dead in 1989 after a mission she did with her old boss, Dr. Wendy Lawson, played by Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right) and how she got her powers in the first place. She also learns that things aren't exactly as what they seem, so she decides to fight for what's right to do, and not to fight when someone just tells her to.

When Captain Gorgeousness, I mean Captain Marvel unleashes her powers onto her enemies, it's awesome to see but unfortunately, it's a little underwhelming. However, there are plenty of moments in the movie that makes you go "OH, SHIT!" which is good. Brie Larson is such an amazing actress, because she brings a personality to Danvers that says I'm a smart ass, but I can kick yours as well, along with how she balances her humanity with her Kree side, plus without Maria as Danvers' best friend, the movie would lack the dimension that it would have when they go to Louisiana. Nick Fury does lose his eye in the movie as well but the way it happens, it'll just make you go, "Really?" but the cat itself is pretty awesome by the end of the movie.
