The Photograph, Selling Tampa(Netflix), and King of Boys: The Return of the King(Netflix).

The 'brief and not-so-brief opinions' articles are my outlet to rant about or appreciate movies, shows and their elements. I will express my thoughts while watching and after or only after watching, it depends. I will not be rating. These are not spoiler-free for the most part and no research will be made for or about them(unless curious or accidental which would be mentioned). They are in no particular order of recent watching as well. However, the opinions are in order of viewing the movie or show (for the most part). This wouldn't be as structured or detailed as well and there would be no set number of picks per article, it would be just as things go. It is intended to be casual. So think, conversations about movie plots, characters, topics-so something like that.

King of Boys: The Return of the King(2021)

After the 2018 movie, King of Boys, the sequel came out in 2021 in the form of a Netflix limited series by the name King of Boys: The Return of the King along with a documentary explaining the execution of it known as The Making of a King. Both are excellent, starring Sola Sobowale as the present Alhaja Eniola Salami and directed by Kemi Adetiba. This series has 7 episodes with each being an hour or more. Eniola is a businesswoman, engrossed in the community and a beloved respected figure in Lagos, Nigeria. As she is respected for her businesses, she is also the matriarch known as the King of boys. She holds the crown, throne, power and respect of the underworld among powerful men at the table. We saw her trials, power struggle, betrayal and consequences in the first movie but experience much more in the follow-up series. It is interesting as she battles her decision to do better, be peaceful and acquire just power as governor of Lagos state. We watch her experience grief from losses, shame from being abandoned, a battle with Christianity, struggle with power and fight with her inner demon or fierce younger Eniola (Toni Tones). It remains a chilling performance and a great story as we see some familiar faces from the movie while following the journey wondering if she would remain indeed up on her throne.

Selling Tampa (2021)

This is a Netflix lifestyle and reality series essentially focused on home selling and buying. We view the Tampa housing market through the lenses of brokerage company, Allure Realty. Owned by Sharelle Rosado, we follow the journey of the growing minority-owned and managed company. Exhibited are their existing methods, client meetings, office meetings, property visitations, deals and bits of their personal lives. The show consists of the seven Allure realty agents and a broker interacting and assisting each other in closing deals. These eight women contribute to the show's enlightening, eventful and representative nature. It is a part of Netflix's Selling collection including the 5-Season Selling Sunset show and an upcoming one. There's one season with 8 episodes of 20 minutes or more. The show is visually appealing with beautiful properties and luxurious lifestyles.

The Photograph(2020)

This movie follows journalist, Michael Block (LaKeith Stanfield) and the interview he does uncovering so much more for the story and himself. We get a glimpse into a famous photographer, Christina Eames' (Chanté Adams) life regarding her career forming, her love, her lifestyle, and her parenting. We see how her mother's ideas shaped her, how she valued photography and how she embraced who she loved. Throughout we notice the repeated patterns, or cycles in terms of her health and love. We go on this journey through a letter that moulds the story showing the past as it affects the present. It is a beautiful way to attempt to end a cycle through prevention as we see the impact on her daughter, Mae (Issa Rae). It is primarily a romantic movie as it came out in theatres for 2020's Valentine's Day but it touches on various subjects including the impact of recklessness and a lack of integrity on communities.
