On December 25, 2020, Netflix released what soon became the most-watched Netflix Original show. After just 4 weeks on the network, Bridgerton recorded 625 million hours of view time on 82 million accounts. It is the number 1 watched show and movie on Netflix.

What is Bridgerton?

Bridgerton gives a history lesson of the courtship and marriage process of the women and men in the Age of Enlightenment. The Bridgerton is a film adaptation of a series of books by Julia Quinn. It is a 7-book series based on the whirlwind romance of each Bridgerton child. Thus far, Shonda Rhimes has produced the the first book, The Duke and I.

Bridgerton brings much more than heated romance. The setting takes place in the 1700s, during the ruin of Queen Charlotte. Features of her reign include her extravagant personality, her grand balls for debutants, and her so-call gift match-making. But there are hints of a modern twist, especially the music. However, it is the iconic gossip columnist Lady Whistledown that brings dimension. Believe it or not, gossip was just as common in those days as now. Just examine the lives of all the mamas in the show.

Season 1: The Duke & I

The first Shonda Rhimes production of the first Bridgerton was a big hit. The story was acted to perfection, but with a few missing features from the book. Rege-JeanPage played the Duke of Hastings and Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton played his love interest.

A unique feature about the romance of the Duke and Ms. Bridgerton is Marriage and children. Due to the Duke's devastating childhood, he swore off the notion of marriage and having children. His justification is to avoid putting his child through a similar faith. Daphne, on the other hand, wants to find love and get married. She also wants to have lots of children.

To see how the story ends you will have to watch the show.

Season 2: The Viscount who loved me

Netflix confirmed a second series only weeks after the first was released. With the records from the first, it would be a beneficial investment. Eager fans have been on edge waiting to get any piece of information about season 2.

If you have read the book, then you would have an idea of what season 2 is all about. As a dedicated reader, your imagination has already placed faces on each character. But we will have to wait to experience how Shonda Rhimes incorporate modern twists into this story. And with the actors and actresses on the cast, it is poised to be a treat.

On January 21, 2022, it was officially announced that Bridgerton season 2 will be released on March 25. At the announcement excitement, and anticipation peaked among fans. Then short clips of the upcoming season were released. The internet again went crazy. Stay tuned to see how season 2 does.

After Rege-Jean Page's performance in season 1, many fans wish to have his return in season. But sadly, that may not be a reality. If you follow the book, the Duke only appears a few times. It is sad not to see him, but the show must go on.

That's a wrap

While we patiently await the release of Bridgerton season 2, you can:

  • Rewatch Season 1, to refresh the characters of the show. And it wouldn't hurt to see the Duke and Daphne’s love story again.
  • If you haven't watched it, then you should watch this show.
  • Read the books, they are great!
  • Something that resounded with me, was the pressure young women faced in society, during that period. Many weren’t career-driven like we are today Instead they were forced to get married and have children. Then the mothers try to marry off their daughters to the richest suitor and the males are encouraged to find the fairest debutant. Most times love or your preference does not matter.

    Thank you for reading.
