'Black Widow' Trailer Re-Released With November Release Date In Front Of 'The New Mutants'

Since her first appearance, Black Widow (her real name being Natasha Romanoff) has been one of the more popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The portrayal of the character by Academy Award-nominated actress Scarlett Johansson helped her keep up with the heavy hitters in the series such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. A standalone film for her has been known to be in the works for several years now, which is especially nice for fans of her, given her death in Avengers: Endgame. With Phase 4 of the Marvel movies now coming out, we will be able to get a good look at more of the character traits and motivations only vaguely hinted at in the other Avengers films.

With theaters opening back up and actually showing more movies, the last Marvel movie produced by Fox is finally being released. Rumors originally stated that it would come with a trailer for the new highly-anticipated Black Widow film. Well, all signs are pointing to that being the case. Originally, it seemed that no new footage would be shown, with only the film's official release date (November 6, 2020) as added information. It was rumored that there would be more plot details and footage of the film's main villain: Taskmaster. As it turns out, however, the trailer attached is indeed the final trailer released last March but with the released date changed to the November release date.

Despite the lack of new footage, given the slate of Marvel villains of the past decade or so, seeing a new one will be really interesting, especially after dealing with Thanos in the latest two Avengers films. It will also be a bit of fresh air to get a smaller scale Marvel movie. The last two Avengers movies were some of the biggest films of all time, with Avengers: Endgame currently at the highest grossing film of all time not adjusted for inflation (adjusted for inflation it's the 16th). So it will almost be odd to get one that is not touted as the biggest movie event of the year.

Granted, Endgame had a decade's worth of films leading up to it. Black Widow does not.

In any case, Black Widow will likely be a more focused story, and it would be surprising if we saw other Marvel heavy hitters in it, though seeing Nick Fury pop up would not be a shocker. It is pretty much required for him to show up for at least a few minutes.

With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, everything has been crazy, especially the film industry. The New Mutants is the first major film release in the US since March, so hopefully it is a sign of things to come within the film industry. It will be nice to actually be able to go to the theater again, and movies like Black Widow will actually make it worth it. Sure, Disney's release of the Mulan remake might be a better indicator of what the film industry will look like post-COVID, but for now, it appears that some things might be going back to normal, even if it is in a small way. Given the wasteland that has been the movie industry this year, a major movie is cause for celebration.

With the film confirming when we will finally be able to see Black Widow, it adds another layer of excitement. Ever since her first appearance, Black Widow has been popular. A standalone film, especially after the events of Avengers: Endgame, has a lot of avenues to explore. However, film release dates have been announced and pushed back several times before (see Mulan above). So while it looks like we will be able to watch it on November 6, nothing is certain in this world. The trailer will add more buzz, but in terms of watching the film itself, the future is not set in stone.
