Lockdown was implemented in the U.K just over a week ago and despite being an essential worker I have been forced home due to an injury. This has resulted in complete and utter boredom for myself and my family and so I’ve resorted to adult colouring books and binge-watching various shows. So here is a list of shows to make your lockdown go a little quicker.

Sense8 - Available on Netflix

I will never not plug this show because it is amazing. First off this is not a family friendly show and I would not recommend watching it with your parents. However Sense8 is a work of art with a diverse cast and representation we only ever dream of. It follows the lives of eight people who are reborn sensates which means they are connected through their emotions, only two of the main characters are white males and not one of the characters is straight. This is a show that should have gotten way more recognition than it actually did because it was so unique. Netflix cancelled it prematurely in my opinion as there was way more of this concept to be explored and unfortunately it all had to be squished into a rushed two hour finale. I beg of you to give this show a chance and trust me you will not regret it.

Wizards of Waverley Place - Available on Disney+

We love a throwback and Wizards of Waverley Place was a personal favourite of mine for the sole reason of Selena Gomez’s comedic timing. Her portrayal of Alex Russo is nothing less than charming and the show in general is an easy watch for the whole family. I firmly believe that even the parents will enjoy Wizards of Waverley Place, considering I’m twenty-three and still watching this show.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Available on Netflix

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was saved from the abyss of cancellation and thank god for that. Charming and clever this cop show is marking its differences from every other sitcom out there. The cold opens are nothing short of hilarious, especially the Backstreet Boys cold open, and honestly it’s just such a wholesome show. The show features a bisexual Latina detective, a gay black Captain, several male characters who are comfortable with emotions and women who aren’t afraid to be ambitious. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of my favourite sitcoms, Friends who?

American Horror Story - Available on Netflix

I still can’t believe the same man who created Glee also created American Horror Story, it makes no sense to me however this anthology series is insanely good. Every season is a different theme but the cast largely remains the same over the series and they are super talented. Fair warning that this show gets super creepy and is not for the faint hearted. Not every season is great, looking at you Freak Show, but others are simply incredible like Coven and Murder House.

The Confession Tapes - Available on Netflix

If true crime is your thing then definitely watch The Confession Tapes which focuses on the the different ways a confession can be coerced out of a suspect and the effects it can have on a case. I tend to go on a documentary kick where I watch nothing but documentaries for weeks on end and this is one that I stumbled across. Each episode focuses on a different crime where the person convicted for the crime was coerced into confessing and other avenues are explored. Super interesting and it really makes you question how much you can trust the system.

Any Louis Theroux Documentary - Available on Netflix and BBC IPlayer

The king of documentaries Louis Theroux has many series available to watch and they are all outstanding. His work on The Most Hated Family in America over many years gives great insight into their thinking as well as outside opinion in a very non-judgemental way. He has a great presence and asks interesting questions without pushing his own opinion on the people he’s interviewing. Over the years he’s looked at gambling, care home facilities and the prison system and all of them are interesting and informative.

YOU - Available on Netflix

Honestly everyone had been up my ass about watching this show and I have to say when I got round to watching it I was surprised it wasn’t too hyped up. Joe Goldberg is one messed up guy who genuinely thinks he’s the hero of the story being told, the story takes many twists and turns over the two seasons. This show is super bingable and you’ll be done and wishing for more before you know it.

Grace and Frankie - Available on Netflix

Another refreshing comedy, Grace and Frankie explores life after eighty and how the future is still bright. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin play Grace and Frankie who’s husbands leave them for each other resulting in an unlikely friendship. Between Fonda and Tomlin’s bickering and the supporting casts stellar comedic timing this show is breaking down barriers surrounding growing old. Grace and Frankie will never not be funny.

Agent Carter - Available on Disney+

Hayley Attwell, starring as Agent Peggy Carter, the feminist kick-ass agent of S.H.E.I.L.D. Need I say more?

Lizzie McGuire - Available on Disney+

Lizzie McGuire was another one of my favourites growing up and Hilary Duff remains one of my childhood heroes to this day. Trust me the kids will love this show, no matter how old.
