Psych remains one of the best crime serials as well as one of the best television shows ever written. It stays consistent in tone, writing style and quality from episode 1 to the series finale. The show also remains underrated and underappreciated so I’ve decided to make a list of what I feel are the best episodes of the long running TV series.

Season 1

Spelling Bee: This episode is only the second episode of the series and it does a great job of establishing the show's humor as well as the role of each character. The plot of the case is also very entertaining as it seems to have a personal tie to one of our main characters.

Who Ya Gonna Call?: Now we learn later that Shawn really loves making 80s movie references so this is a great title in retrospect but more than that this episode is one of the best at showing the dynamics between Shawn and Lassiter. Their banter is definitely one of the best parts of the show and this episode shows why.

Scary Sherry: Bianca’s Toast: Okay seriously I love this episode so much. It is perfectly spooky, we get some great moments between Henry and Shawn. And honestly it has one of the best single episode plot lines of the entire show.

Season 2

If You’re So Smart, Why Are You Dead?: An absolutely amazing episode where the boys of the Psych agency help a couple of high schoolers. An awesome plot line, and another personal tie with Gus.

Lights, Camera…Homicidio: Shawn ends up on a telenovela while investigating a murder and it is wildly entertaining.

Dis-Lodged: Seriously, season 2 is so good. I love this episode because we’ve got all kinds of character dynamics going on here. Henry and Shawn, Shawn and Lassiter, Lassiter and his ex-father in law. Such great character moments from all of them.

Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion: The plot of this one was whatever but the dialogue was so incredible. The quips from Shawn and Gus were next level in this episode.

Season 3

Murder?....Anyone?....Anyone?....Bueller?: Back to the 80s references we go to Shawn and Gus’ high school reunion. And we get the introduction of Abigail whom I love very much and that relationship introduces some tension between Shawn and Jules.

Gus Walks Into A Bank: Get ready to be emotional. This is a full Shawn loves Gus and Henry loves Shawn episode and there is nothing better.

An Evening with Mr. Yang: Well we can’t have a crime show without a multi-episode serial killer arc so here we go. As intense arcs on crime shows go this one is seriously well written. When you think of how the writers had to come up with the clues and puzzles and put an insane level of personal emotion into this episode, it's an impressive feat of writing and I can’t say enough good things about it.

Season 4

High Top Fade Out: Some great guest stars make this episode a must see. Gus is reunited with members of an acapella group he used to be in. Shawn feels slightly left out but you get to hear the fact that James Roday actually has a pretty decent voice at the end of the episode.

Mr. Yin Presents…: Continuing our serial killer saga, the stakes are upped once again when Mr. Yin comes into play. I love how well written these episodes are. Sometimes we just rewatch these ones because they're so good. They really stretch the acting ability of our main characters and allow them to show more than normally get to.

Season 5

Okay it's not that season 5 got bad, it's only that all of the episodes are of about equal quality and not much really stood out to me. Most of my most rewatched episodes are in the earlier seasons.

Dual Spires: So this is a must watch if you have seen Twin Peaks because I’m gonna be real honest that is the only way you are really going to appreciate this episode. I’ve always thought it was a weird out of place episode until my husband made me watch Twin Peaks, and now I like the episode. So if you haven’t seen it then this one is pretty skippable.

Yang 3 in 2D: And here we have our conclusion to the Yin/Yang saga. Dark, stressful, emotional and truly a great watch. I highly recommend watching all of them back to back because they are so good.

Season 6

Episode 12: Shawn goes undercover on a dating show. Honestly this episode is just funny. Gus is basically bullied by everyone and Shawn and Juliet have some great back and forth.

Episode 16: Great plotline, seriously one of the best case stories in the show. Henry gets very involved so we get to see his and Shawns interactions while on a case which is always fun.

Season 7

Episode 1: This one picks up right after Episode 16 of season 6 and continues with this great storyline. The last episode leaves off on a cliffhanger and this episode is it's resolution.

Season 8

The Break Up: The series final that actually made my brother cry. It was an excellent and fitting end to an amazing show.
