So you can see why I was so excited to find Blake Henriksen, AKA PinkHavok, on deviantART...
It's not that often that I'm completely blown away by fanart. Not to say that there aren't dedicated, talented fans out there, quite the opposite! I've seen so MUCH awesomeness that my taste has become refined. I am a connoisseur, sampling art like fine wine - just with less spitting on the ground afterwards.
So you can see why I was so excited to find Blake Henriksen, AKA PinkHavok, on deviantART (thanks to a tipoff from my buddy Evan Lee). And by that, I mean... you can SEE. Look at this amazingness! I especially love the fact that while I suspect this is digital art, PinkHavok is able to replicate the look and feel of traditional art, oils and acrylic paint. Sort of gives the art a classic look, while using modern technology. Neat!

What Could Have Been: Treasure Planet 2
You might remember the Disney movie Treasure Planet, or you might not, because it's never really achieved the same level of fame as the rest of the Disney pantheon - but not because it was a bad movie. It was a hybrid 2D/CGI updated version of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island' - in space! With classic sailing-ship-looking crafts that sailed in an airy space atmosphere called the Etherium. It had a blend of Celtic-sounding music with some 90's grunge songs (by Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik) mirroring the steampunk-ish vibe of old-meets-"new," and brought in an element of parental abandonment and found family.

Book Review: "Byron: A Life in Ten Letters" by Andrew Stauffer
If you know me then you know that Lord Byron is one of my favourite poets of all time. Actually, if I think about it, he is my favourite poet of all time (I see you, John Keats and I'm sorry). Since 2024 is the 200th anniversary of the death of Lord Byron it is only apt to release a stunning new biography that gives us all of the stories we know and love from his life. In this book, the author chooses from the thousands of letters Byron sent to give us ten that might let us into the life of the poet more than any of the others. I would like to know how he choose said letters because honestly, I would not be able to choose ten. This book is absolutely fantastic and is by someone who has a genius level of intellect on the poet Lord Byron.
