These award-winning movies shouldn’t be missed if you haven’t seen them.

Flight

Starring Denzel Washington, John Goodman, Kelly Reilly, Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood.

Awards: NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, Satellite Award for Best Visual Effects.

An airline pilot named Whip Whittaker played by Denzel Washington, saves a plane from crashing but he is investigated when it’s discovered that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This story is based on the truth of a real-life disaster, the crash of Alaska Airlines 261 on 31st January 2000. The story reveals what comes from a disaster but also the effects of emotions of other things that can make life unbearable.

Rotten Tomatoes rates the movie 77% and the audience score is 75%.

A Quiet Place

Starring Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe.

Awards: Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie, Satellite Award for Best Sound, Bandung Film Festival for Imported Film.

A family struggles for survival whilst living in a world where they have to be quiet because creatures are hunting humans who make noise. The creatures are blind and kill everything through a noise-sensitive process. The movie is quite eerie and thrilling to watch.

Rotten Tomatoes rates it 95% and the audience score is 83%.

Dunkirk

Starring Harry Styles, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden.

Awards: Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing, BAFTA Award for Best Sound, Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, Academy Award for Best Film Editing, Satellite Award for Best Sound, AACTA International Award for Best Direction, Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Editing.

The story is based on truth during the second world war. Soldiers from the British Empire, Belgium, and France try to evacuate from the town of Dunkirk during an arduous battle with German forces. A true-life movie that will give you a sense of what went on during wartime.

Marriage Story

Starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Alan Alda, and Ray Liotta.

An outstanding story about a marriage going through a divorce. A tearful movie that will wreck you. Definitely a movie you should watch if you love a cry. An emotional movie about relationships going wrong.

A young African-American boy finds guidance in Juan, a drug dealer who teaches him how to churn his life into something more. A masterful film revealing an emotional uplifting about life and growing up. An uplifting movie.

A 2013 film that moved me. Theodore Twombly, an introvert writer, buys an Artificial Intelligence system to help him write. He becomes amazed by the AI’s ability to learn and adapt, so he falls in love with it and she turns his life into something meaningful. A beautiful movie. This movie has an unusual story.

Room

Starring Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Joan Allen, and William H. Macy.

Oscars Won: Actress (Larson)

After years of being held captive in an isolated shed by a kidnapper, Joy and her little son, Jack, escape the confinement and gain their freedom. Of course, freedom is a struggle in itself, and Joy finds life much harder. This is an uplifting, heart-wrenching story.

Rotten Tomatoes rates it 93% and the audience score is 93%.
