Awarapan 2 Trailer Review: Emraan Hashmi Returns as Shivam Pandit With Pain, Violence and Nostalgia
Emraan Hashmi is back as Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2, and the short but intense trailer promises action, heartbreak, redemption and plenty of nostalgia ahead of its August 14, 2026 release.

There was a time when Awarapan 2 looked capable of becoming Bollywood’s biggest dark horse of 2026. The return of Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit automatically carried massive emotional value, especially for viewers who still remember the original Awarapan for its pain, romance and unforgettable music.
Unfortunately, the marketing campaign has not generated the kind of hype one would expect from such a nostalgic sequel.
And then the Awarapan 2 trailer arrived.
It is extremely short for a theatrical trailer, running for roughly 80 seconds, but the moment Emraan Hashmi appears on screen and that familiar musical emotion kicks in, many of the complaints suddenly become easier to forget.
Because this is not simply Awarapan returning.
Shivam Pandit is back.
Emraan Hashmi Still Feels Like the Soul of Awarapan
The strongest thing about the Awarapan 2 trailer is easily Emraan Hashmi.
Almost everything the trailer wants to communicate—pain, loneliness, anger, love and redemption—is visible on his face.
You do not need a lengthy plot explanation to understand Shivam’s state of mind. He still looks like a man carrying an unfinished story from his past, except this time the pain appears to have transformed into something far more violent.
That is where the sequel seems noticeably different from the original film.
Awarapan was remembered primarily as a tragic romantic crime drama. Awarapan 2, at least from its trailer, appears determined to increase the scale of the action significantly.
There are fights, guns, confrontations and several aggressively edited shots designed to present Shivam almost like an unstoppable action hero.
And that creates both excitement and concern.
Has Awarapan 2 Become Too Action-Heavy?
Bollywood has been heavily influenced by violent action dramas in recent years, and Awarapan 2 appears to be embracing some of that trend.
But does Shivam Pandit really need to become another larger-than-life action hero?
The biggest strength of Emraan Hashmi’s character was never physical power. It was emotional damage.
Shivam worked because audiences could feel his loneliness.
He was dangerous, but he was also broken.
That combination made him memorable.
The new film therefore has a difficult balance to maintain. Action can make the sequel bigger, but if the violence overwhelms the romance and emotional conflict, Awarapan 2 risks losing exactly what made the franchise special.
Emraan Hashmi does not need to become Bollywood’s Iron Man.
He simply needs to remain Shivam Pandit.
The Trailer Is Fast — Maybe Too Fast
Another problem is the editing.
There appear to be several visually impressive and potentially powerful scenes in the trailer, but many disappear before the viewer gets enough time to absorb them.
The trailer moves so quickly that some of its strongest moments almost become background images.
Pause individual frames, however, and things become much more interesting.
The dark cinematography, unfamiliar characters, criminal-world atmosphere and intense confrontations give portions of the movie an almost Korean crime-thriller flavour.
There are also some interesting supporting performers around Emraan, which could make the confrontations more memorable if the screenplay gives them enough space.
Disha Patani Needs More Than Just Screen Presence
Disha Patani is another major part of Awarapan 2, but the trailer does not give her enough material to make a strong impression.
That feels like a missed opportunity.
If this is ultimately a story about Shivam’s love, pain and attempt at redemption, the emotional relationship at the centre of that journey needs to be powerful.
The film cannot depend entirely on Emraan Hashmi looking heartbroken.
Disha's character has to become emotionally important enough for audiences to understand why Shivam is willing to go through everything we see in the trailer.
Hopefully, the movie itself offers her far more than the promotional footage suggests.
Shabana Azmi Could Be the Surprise Package
One intriguing part of Awarapan 2 is Shabana Azmi, who adds immediate weight to the cast.
Her presence could significantly raise the dramatic stakes of Shivam’s story.
Interestingly, she is also one of the names adding extra curiosity around the film’s August 14 release period. With multiple major releases competing for attention, performances could ultimately matter more than online fan wars or opening-day predictions.
For now, though, Awarapan 2 clearly belongs to Emraan Hashmi.
The Biggest Missed Opportunity: Music
Perhaps the biggest disappointment surrounding Awarapan 2 so far is its music.
That is particularly surprising because music is practically part of the DNA of the Awarapan brand.
The original film became deeply connected with audiences not only because of its story but because its soundtrack transformed Shivam’s pain into something viewers could feel.
The new songs are polished and listenable, but so far they have not created that same emotional impact.
Maybe things will change after audiences watch the songs within the context of the movie.
Still, considering the legacy attached to Awarapan, the makers had an opportunity to deliver one of the biggest Bollywood albums of 2026.
At the moment, that opportunity feels only partially used.
One genuinely viral romantic track before release could still completely change the film’s momentum.
Final Verdict on the Awarapan 2 Trailer
The Awarapan 2 trailer is not perfect.
It is too short, too fast and possibly too focused on selling violence when the franchise’s real strength has always been emotional pain.
But it also confirms one extremely important thing:
Emraan Hashmi still owns Shivam Pandit.
Take him out of these 80 seconds and much of the excitement disappears.
Put him back in, add the familiar darkness, heartbreak and nostalgia, and suddenly Awarapan 2 becomes difficult to ignore.
That is both the film’s biggest strength and its biggest risk.
If Awarapan 2 delivers a powerful emotional story behind all the action, this could become one of Emraan Hashmi’s most memorable theatrical comebacks.
But if nostalgia is doing all the heavy lifting, audiences will notice.
With Awarapan 2 releasing on August 14, 2026, we do not have long to find out.
For now, Shivam Pandit is back—and despite the questionable marketing, that alone might be enough to bring plenty of fans to theatres.
What do you think of the Awarapan 2 trailer? Are you watching it in theatres, or will you wait for reviews first?
