Anurag Sinha wins New Jersey Indian & International Film Festival’ 2022 Award for Best Actor(Male) for ‘Shadow Assassins’.

‘Shadow Assassins’ is based on true events of Secret Killings in Assam, 1998. Directed by Nilaanjan Reeta Datta. Anurag Sinha brings in life to the transformation of ‘Nirbhay Kalita’ to a rebellion in this true story of tribulations at the behest of impolitic motives.

Anurag Sinha debuted with his stellar performance in Subhash Ghai’s ‘Black & White’ produced by Mukta Arts. His other works include the critically acclaimed ‘Prisoners of War’, directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Emmay Entertainment.

Anurag Sinha is a profound Indian actor whose body of work has been highly exclusive. He has studied from The Scindia School, Gwalior, India. Anurag completed his Graduation in Chemistry(H) from The St. Stephen's College, New Delhi and Post Graduation Diploma in Acting from FTII, Pune, India.

Subhash Ghai hand-picked him from his performance in the play ‘Lower Depths’, written by Maxim Gorky, for his film ‘Black & White’.

Shadow Assassins, his latest project, is based on true events of secret killings in Assam, 1998. The secret killings of Assam (1998–2001) was probably the darkest chapter in Assam's political history when relatives, friends, and sympathisers of ULFA insurgents were systematically killed by unknown assailants. These extra-judicial murders happened in Assam between 1998 and 2001.

Anurag has infused life in 'Nirbhay Kalita' in the film ‘Shadow Assassins’, and has excelled in exhibiting his acting prowess. The film was widely acclaimed. Anurag Sinha has again proved to be a stellar performer.

According to Wikipedia, during the secret killings of Assam, investigations into the killings culminated in the report of the "Saikia Commission", presented to the Assam Assembly November 15, 2007. The actual killers were surrendered elements of the ULFA, who would approach their targets at home, at night, knocking on the door and calling out in Assamese to allay suspicion. When the victims answered the door, they were shot or kidnapped to be shot elsewhere. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in August 2005 constituted the Justice K N Saikia Commission of enquiry. The Commission submitted its Secret Killings of Assam's Report part by part and the action taken report was submitted on October 15, 2007, the digitized version of the report can be downloaded from Archive.org

In one of the conversations of Anurag : Question : ‘Not that you sense that you would have an issue in being a typecast, but can’t help but quiz you on what would be your ideal role?

Anurag : “Acting, is acting, at the end of the day. As a performer, you have to be mindful of the fact that your job is to get into the skin of a character, without getting into the zone of rights or wrongs or what’s best for me or what won’t be”. He adds, “for me, I don’t think restricting myself to a particular genre would be the ideal thing to do. My job is to live as best as possible the trials and tribulations of every role that’s chalked out for me, without getting into preferential”.

NJIFF - Best Actor(Male) 2022 is awarded to Anurag Sinha for ‘Shadow Assassins’.
