André the Giant may be best known to those with little to no interest in the wrestling world as Fezzik the giant from The Princess Bride, but those who cut their teeth on the WWF (now WWE) well remember the giant in his wrestling heyday. Not only did he become known for his inhuman ability to drink vast quantities of alcohol, he also became known for his heel turn against wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan. In Wrestlemania III, Hogan successfully defended his championship title against André the Giant and, incredibly, pinned the big man to the mat in a clean defeat.

Although Bill Simmons saw his talk show, Any Given Wednesday, scrubbed in November 2016, it's his media group that will be producing the documentary alongside WWE and HBO. He was admiring of the legacy André the Giant had left, and said that he'd long wanted to get André's story out there.

"We always hear about unicorns these days—André was the ultimate unicorn," he said. "He’s a true legend. Everyone who ever crossed paths with him has an André story—and usually four or five.”

Simmons' 30 For 30 series might also be getting into telling a few wrestling stories. Apparently, there is an upcoming film produced by 30 For 30 about the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, who has had a storied career with the WWE. That should hit HBO some time in 2017.

According to Phillipine Star, the André the Giant documentary will take a look at the giant's upbringing in France, his incredible 15-year undefeated streak in the WWE and his dabbling in the world of entertainment with films like The Princess Bride. He died of congestive heart failure January 27, 1993, while in Paris attending his father's funeral.

No word is available as to when the André the Giant documentary will air.
