An Amazon in the Past

A Prologue to the Lord of the Rings

There are many people growing up, like myself, who saw Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson in 2001. They were in enthralled on how wonderful and creative it was in its magic and set design; each architecture and piece was set to perfection, with even the music by Howard Shore. Yet, there exists in the making, a tv show that is set to rediscover that magic again: Amazons Lord of the Rings, but akin to the Simarillion (set thousands of years ago).

The series itself is still shrouded but is being shot in wonderful New Zealand where the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit were both filmed with its beautiful landscape. The series itself was announced in 2017 and since been filmed with at least 2 episodes completed at the time of this writing.

While many people are aware of the present day journey of Frodo Baggins and the One Ring, many are unfamiliar with the 2nd Age and Numenor. Aragorn is set to be the Dunedain a descendant of people from the 2nd Age of this place of long lived men. The story itself will explore this and other areas during the 2nd age of Middle Earth. This leaves so much intrigue as there is so much story to explore and learn about as viewers will be keen to know more about Sauron and others who lived during this time period. The Dark Lord himself could be a focus and as well as many of the inhabitants of this era.

The series itself although relatively new in length, itself has already been ordered by Amazon for a 2nd season. Lord of the Rings with the extended version by Peter Jackson were very lengthy and expanded upon much of the story. The Amazon series has already been given an ample growing space to tell much of its story (The 2nd age spans about 3, 441 years). There is so much possibility with character growth and sadness in this tragedy of Greek proportions that can occur. At least 20 episodes will occur in the 1st season alone.

For those worried about who will be writing the series, fear not! The series itself will be written by JD Payne and Patrick McKay who will develop the series, after having developed the Star Trek series by JJ Abrahams. Many others involved are Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond (who helped worked on game of Game of Thrones!), Gene Kelly, Gennifer Hutchinson (Breaking Bad), Justin Doble, Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones). It is these people who are helping to breathe life into this epic tale. They will help shape the foundations of this great series as it moves forward on the platform of Amazon.

Like any series, the cast is a bit thing for people to consider to watch. When people heard that Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Sauruman, and Hugo Weaving as Elrond just to name a few, it really got people excited to see those films; so is the same with this series. Actors such as Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Fabian McCallum, and Simon Merrells among others will portray wonderful characters for this series. It is almost impossible to imagine a series without wonderful actors to enjoy seeing the 2nd age of Middle Earth to pull them in.

There is still much speculation on how with series will fair many people. Yet with a budget of $250 million dollars it is fair that this series will be enthralling on so many levels and enjoyable to people to watch. Budgets themselves allow for great sets to be built and costumes to be made for the era in which they are set; so the same can be for the 2nd age of the Amazon Lord of the Rings Series. Time will tell if people enjoy it, but with so many wonderful decisions already being made and much hope in the direction, I believe if one loves Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, than they definitely should give the Amazon series a try when it debuts on Amazon Prime in 2021.
