The Charmed Ones.

We all have a fantasy-type show or movie we love to watch. Whether you are really into fantasy or not, you have to admit that the genre is pretty intriguing. I first became hooked to fantasy while watching Charmed. Charmed displayed women as very powerful and capable of protecting themselves. It was unlike anything I had ever seen besides Harry Potter of course. Charmed was more enticing to me at the time since it was about sisters growing more powerful together. I have an older sister and even wished that I had a younger sister. It was more of the sisterly bonding that I desired and had me initially so glued, but of course, how could I not notice the magic.

Both Harry Potter and Charmed introduce the good and the evil in the world from a supernatural perspective. We mostly get a lot of battles with darkness and power-led enemies. The good witches and warlocks have a pretty common goal, which is to protect the innocent even if it means risking their own lives because they believe that they are the only defense against evil. With great power comes great responsibility. Fantasy may be fiction but there are definitely lessons displayed in the fantasy genre that we just can't ignore. Lessons like becoming power hungry and stuck on revenge may win some battles but will ultimately lose the war. I'm a big fan of overcoming situations and obstacles. Losing battles occur, but being allowed to heal and come back stronger is the best part.

In the original Charmed, the main characters are three sisters. Prue (the eldest), has the ability to move objects with her eyes and hands. She also gains the ability to project herself outside of her body. Piper (the second eldest), has the ability to freeze her surrounding environment and blow things up from the inside out. Phoebe (the second youngest), has the power of premonition, empathy, and levitation. Paige (half-sister and the youngest), who is introduced after Prue's death, can orb objects and people. Paige also has healing powers and much more. Now, who wouldn't want any of these powers? These same exact powers recur in other shows like Flash so they have to be pretty great whether the power is for a witch or a superhuman. According to Wikipedia, the first episode gained almost 7.7 million views. In comparison to the popular show The Game of Thrones, which only had 2.2 million views in the first episode.

Also, the reboot of Charmed has to mean something. I wonder if there will be a reboot of The Game of Thrones. I guess we'll just have to wait and see but so far I say Charmed is in the lead. Maybe because it's already a classic. The reboot currently has two seasons so it appears to be doing well with the younger characters. I myself prefer the original Charmed over the reboot but at least the 21 century gets a taste of the classic. Charmed was indeed my base when it came down to falling in love with fantasy. This love led me to Vampire Diaries and The Originals. So vampires may seem a little off at first but according to the storyline of Vampire Diaries and The Originals, witches were the ones who created vampires and werewolves alike. With this came the discussion of balance in how werewolves were created to kill vampires. This created a supernatural food chain, and a constant power struggle between witches, vampires, werewolves, and hybrids.

Charmed reboot

So do you see how this all expands now? Charmed lasted for 8 seasons. Vampire Diaries lasted for 8 seasons. The spinoff of Vampire Diaries, The Originals, lasted for 5 seasons. And another spinoff was created called Legacies, which is going strong with 3 seasons so far. All of these shows mentioned have great witch leads since the vampires and werewolves wouldn't exist without witches in the first place. The witches in all of these shows are very powerful beings and this proves that any fantasy including witches and warlocks as leads is indeed the best. To pick a favorite is hard but I will say Charmed is the best and my favorite because it introduced me to the best fantasy world of them all.
