Aegon the Conqueror Was the Best King in Westeros History

The Targaryen family is definitely considered to be very controversial, due to their decisions to allow weddings among their own family members, but I have to admit that Aegon the Conqueror is the best king among the Targaryen family. I have finally gotten my hands on the Fire and Blood book, and I was in disbelief by how powerful Aegon was when he first created the Iron Throne, giving the Targaryen's the power to rule in Westeros.

Aegon the Conqueror is considered to be the very first king in Targaryen and Westeros history, when it came to the Iron Throne. Aegon's dream was to have the seven realms turn into a peaceful land, but in order to do that, he needed to create allies. The first thing he did was marry both of his sisters, and this decision both disturbed and pissed off a lot of people who heard about these controversial marriages. The Targaryen family was known for blood to marry blood, to keep the family line pure, so Aegon was going to ensure his bloodline would continue for a long time.

Then he set out to create King's Landing, invaded the seven kingdoms to unite them, and even created the Iron Throne, that became a source of power for the family. Of course, this decision led to many enemies, and Aegon wasn't afraid to fight back. While it was good to keep the peace among the lands, he knew several of his enemies needed to be taken out to ensure peace for everyone in the Seven Kingdoms. He led many battles alongside his sisters, his dragons, and other allies against his enemies, and they won many wars easily, hardly losing any men compared to his enemies.

Despite many victories, he eventually did experience several losses. He lost many trusted comrades, including one of his sister wives named Rhaenys, who had died with her dragon during one of the battles. Aegon grieved her loss, including his other sister wife, Visenya, but this did not stop them from continuing to rule the land with peace. Dorne was their biggest enemy, and they were responsible for the death of Aegon's sister wife.

In order for Dorne to end the war, Aegon decided to allow Dorne to remain an independent kingdom, so that the peace would finally take effect between the king and Dorne. They agreed to the peace deal, and the Seven Kingdoms finally reached peace, and Aegon was given the chance to become a grandfather, as his children gave birth to their own children as time passed.

Aegon lived until the age of 60, and he died of a stroke. However, he left behind a peaceful realm, including his own lineage, that would continue in his absence. Visenya continued to run the kingdom with her own children, and she ended up out living both of her siblings, reaching very old age.

I finally understand why Rhaenyra in House of the Dragon was so obsessed with the story of Ice and Fire. Aegon the Conqueror was a complete menace, but he wasn't considered a monster. He knew how to keep the balance of peace and war, and he found a way to build up the Seven Kingdoms, to unite the land as a whole. I can see why Aegon had a lot of respect, because he was a powerful king that was not to be trifled with. It is still a bit difficult for me to fully like his character, since he did marry both of his sisters...but I can see why Aegon is practically worshipped by the Targaryen family.

Apparently, a film is going to be made on Aegon the Conqueror, and while I'm up for this movie, I wish it had been made into a television show instead. I feel that a movie won't really be able to capture the entire rule of Aegon, but I guess we shall see what is in store for the Fire and Blood fans.
