Adam Warlock is Coming!
A new heavy-hitter is on his way to the MCU
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies have been a welcome break in the MCU since the first installment in 2014. Both movies they have introduced us to new and interesting characters that some people may never have come across otherwise. They will be continuing that trend in volume 3 with the introduction of the highly anticipated Adam Warlock who has been teased for a run in the MCU since the post credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. This has left some new fans of the franchise to wonder, who is Adam Warlock?
Overview
Adam Warlock is an incredibly powerful cosmic being who was created by a villainous group called the enclave in the comics. He was first teased in the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, in which he appeared in the golden creation pod that the enclave created him in and he will be birthed from in the upcoming film.
It is not yet known if this version of Warlock is going to be an enemy or an ally to our heroes, he has been both before in the comics. Starting off as an enemy and then over the years becoming a powerful ally to the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers. However, we do know he is going to be a huge part of the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Powers and Abilities
Adam Warlock is widely regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel comics. He possesses a range of powers and abilities that make him virtually god-like and allows him to go toe-to-toe with some of the most powerful characters in Marvel.
Like most of the heroes in the MCU, he has enhanced strength, speed and agility. This makes him extremely useful in hand-to-hand situations, which he doesn't often have to get involved in due to the nature of the rest of his powers.
Due to Warlock being a synthetically enhanced cosmic being, he can store and convert cosmic energy, this, in turn, gives him the ability to fly through space. On rare occasions, when he has stored significant amounts of energy, he has been known to be able to fly faster than the speed of light.
Warlock can also teleport anywhere in the universe and possesses matter manipulation abilities. This means he can alter matter on a molecular level, meaning he can change anything, into anything. This is similar to the power Thanos possessed when he had the use of the reality stone.
Finally and most importantly, he can shoot energy blasts and is immortal. Warlock has a connection to the soul stone, this means even if someone was to somehow kill Adam, death cannot claim his soul, making him virtually immortal.
Actor
Warlock will be brought to the MCU by actor Will Poulter. Poulter is mostly known for his roles in the Maze Runner franchise and We're the Millers. It is a very exciting casting by Marvel, we have yet to see him take on this large a role and I think he will bring a new life to the character. Poulter has done well so far to bulk up for the role and seems to be putting his all into giving this character the live action debut it deserves.
It is a big role to take on as Warlock is such a powerful and important figure in the comics, which I think will find its way into the MCU version of the character. If done correctly, the character can have a long life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I hope we see him become a mainstay for the future phases.
