Scooby Dooby Doo is one of the most popular cartoons of all times that we loved watching as children.

We know the theme music, the names of the characters and the villains, the mysteries and adventures by heart, but then again, there lies some interesting facts about the show that we may not have known.

Scroll down to 9 fun and interesting facts that we did not know about Scooby-Doo:

1. Scooby Doo was not supposed to be a Great Dane primarily

The makers of the most loved cartoon series of all times, Scooby Dooby doo, originally planned on making Scooby Doo a sheep dog, but negated the idea when they found that that would bring a striking similarity with Red, the dog from Archie. Scooby Doo to us is the handsome Great Dane we have known for years and have loved with all our hearts.

2. Iwao Takamoto sketched Scooby as inverting a Great Dane!

If you think you know all about what type of dog is Scooby Doo, you may go wrong! After Japanese-American artist, Iwao Takamoto was given the responsibility of sketching Scooby's features, he consulted with Hannah Barbara who showed him the important points of a Great Dane that comprises of a straight back, straight back and small chin. Takamoto changed Scooby's structure to the opposite of a Great Dane and gave him a hump back, bowed legs, big chin and the wrong colour.

3. Do you know that Scooby's original name is Scoobert Doo?

Scooby’s name was supposed to be Scoobert at first but aren’t we glad that they changed it? Scooby is so much better! They stuck to Scooby because they got inspired from Frank Sinatra’s song, ‘Strangers in the Night,’ where he sings the lines that are the iconic lyrics of the show Scooby Doobie Doo.

4. Scooby Dooby Doo has had 12 versions of the show since 1969

Scooby Dooby has been made into 12 cartoon shows starting from the original one in 1969. The most popular among them are our favourite Scooby Doo, Where Are You? which aired from 1969-1970 and What’s New, Scooby Doo? which aired from 2002-2006.

5. The show was originally named “W-Who's Scared?”

Scooby Dooby Doo was supposed to be Who's Scared originally but the makers scrapped that idea because it sounded more like a horror series that may frighten children. Hannah Barbara gets the credit of making Scooby the protagonist instead of the other humans and is responsible for making it into a more fun cartoon show than spooky.

6. Scooby and Scooby's friends had different names at the beginning of the show

We also love the characters Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred along with Scooby who were supposed to be named differently. Shaggy was to be named W.W, Fred Jones was to be named Fred Silverman whereas Daphne was supposed to be Kelly and Scooby was supposed to be Too Much! Too much, seriously? Too glad they changed Too much to Scooby and W.W and Kelly to Shaggy and Daphne only!

7. Teenagers had a lot of freedom in 1969

Do you know the real age of the characters in the show? Shaggy and Fred are 17 while Daphne is 16, Velma is, well, 15, and Scooby is 7. They as teenagers or young adults had a lot of freedom as they would travel the country, solving mysteries without being accompanied by their legal guardians.

8. The theme song of the show did not include sounds of real bats

When the show starts and the song starts playing, a cloud of bats appear on screen flying in one direction coupled by some “bat noises.” Those were not sounds of real bats but a tape recorder system feeding back its own sound.

9. The fact that Velma kept losing her spectacles in the show took place because of an accident

Nicole Jaffe who voiced Velma accidentally dropped her spectacles while she was reading out something. She muttered something similar to the people around her and since then, this trend came into being. The character Velma loses her spectacles quite a lot of times in the show.
