What would you do if your plane was under attack?

During a flight from Berlin - Paris, a Captian and young American pilot, are left to regain control of a plane that has been seized by terrorists. While striving to keep passengers and crew safe, one of the pilots attempts to create a connection with one of the hijackers to possibly save the seemingly ill-fated flight.

If you're interested, here is the trailer:

Now, I am not a professional in the film industry whatsoever; however, I enjoy watching my fair share of movies. If you're anything like me, you'll know that some films can be a complete waste of time. To say this was an exception would be a massive understatement.

My husband was the one who suggested we watch this movie, saying that he heard that it got some impressive reviews and that there was a "buzz" surrounding it. Admittedly, I was apprehensive about watching it at first, only because some of the streaming platform "originals" left a lot to be desired in regards to overall quality. I can happily say that I was completely wrong. See guys; women can admit when they're wrong.

The movie was directed by Patrick Vollrath and was written by Partick Vollrath and Senad Halilbasic (co-writer). It starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JGL) as Tobias Ellis, Carlo Kitzliger as Michal Lutzmann, Aylin Tezel as Gökce, Omid Memar as Vedat and Paul Wollin as Daniel.

I'm not sure about you, but I haven't seen a movie starring/including JGL that I didn't like. It's my opinion that JGL is one of the greatest actors of our time. Obviously, he is a good actor, and he makes it easy for us to connect with the character he is portraying. However, he has this unnatural ability to conform his appearance and mannerisms to fit the character in a way that I've only seen him and a couple of other actors do.

Now, one of the coolest things about this movie is that it opens up a whole new world to the travel industry, at least to me. The film allows us to see what goes on before and during a flight in a believable and realistic way. When I say that, I mean, it doesn't look like its overly dramatized like it typically would be for a Hollywood film. The experience felt real, and it felt like you were there.

I don't know about you, but I never really thought about much when it came to flying in a plane. If you're like me, when boarding, I would think about wanting the window seat, hoping that there isn't someone close to me who is sick or wearing too much perfume/cologne. Or, not wanting to miss a connecting flight, losing baggage, and (I think this goes without saying) hoping for a safe trip. I never really gave much thought further than that. This movie shows how in-depth the flight crew's job is. This perspective is genuinely eye-opening and changes how I'll perceive everything the next time I board a plane.

Another interesting detail I noticed was how they showed the relationships between the flight and ground crew. We get to see the communication between everyone involved in the flight process, the comradery between them and how it can get them through what we can only assume to be long and drawn out days at times.

One last impressive/satisfying detail about the movie is that it shows us what it looks like outside the front of the plane during the flight! I cannot be the only person who wondered what it looked like, right? While most of the film takes place at night, there is a beautiful shot where we get to see the sun setting above a blanket of clouds that, if seen in real life, would take your breath away. It may seem like something small to get excited about, but hey, I'm only human. And I've always wanted to see something like that.

The whole movie is dripping with suspense. I even found myself holding my breath at some points. You feel like you're actually there in the cockpit with Tobias (JGL) during the terrifying yet thrilling ordeal. You do not want to miss a minute of this movie.

One of the main messages I believe the film is portraying is to stay vigilant, even in the face of fear. I think that is a life lesson we can all benefit from in one way or another. Just because something seems scary, don't back away from the problem in front of you, and you can accomplish great things.

In conclusion, would I recommend this movie? Yes, 100%! How many stars would I give it? 5 out of 5!

Now, put your phone down/shut down your computer, get a drink, make your favourite snack and watch this movie. I can almost guarantee you won't regret it.
