Wow! How this thing called life flies. When you’re a teenager, being in your twenties seems so far away and like it’s the dream. When you’re in your 20s, the 30s seem to be looming over you. When you’re in your 30s there’s still so much you wish to achieve before you hit 40. You hit 40 and the BIG 50 starts coming into the horizon. Then you turn 50 and life keeps on going till you hit 60 – if you’re lucky.

Growth and aging is a blessing. As much as society today paints it sometimes as something to be dreaded, it is in fact a beautiful thing and with every age that comes, it is an opportunity to be grateful for the life that you have.

Today, we’ll be counting down 7 of our favorite Nigerian celebrities who’ll be hitting the big 60 this year. Are you ready to see who’s on my list? Then let’s go!

1. Richard Mofe-Damijo

Nollywood legend, heartthrob for many years, and phenomenal actor Richard Mofe-Damijo also popularly referred to as RMD will be turning the big 60 this year on July 6. RMD is a Nollywood icon who has starred in iconic movies over the years including 30 Days in Atlanta, The Wedding Party, and Love is War.

2. Toyin Adegbola

Popular Nigerian actress Toyin Adegbola aka Toyin Asewo to re mecca is yet another celebrity who will be clocking the big 6-0 later this year December 28. Toyin has starred in a number of Nollywood movies especially Yoruba movies including the popular Asewo to re Mecca and Ayitale.

3. Donald Duke

Popular Nigerian politician Donald Duke most popular for once being the governor of Cross Rivers State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007 is yet another Nigerian celebrity who will be clocking 60 this year. He doesn’t look like he has any plans of slowing down though. In fact, during the last 2019 elections, he was the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party. Who knows what else is in store for Donald Duke in the future?

4. Yeni Kuti

Omoyeni Anikulapo-Kuti is a dancer, singer, and businesswoman who is a descendant of the Ransome-Kuti family. Her father is the legendary Fela Kuti and she is the first child of Fela, the elder sister to both Femi and Seun Keti. She pioneered the idea of Felabration and currently serves as a co-manager of the New Afrika Shrine alongside her brother Femi Kuti. She’ll be turning 60 come May 24th.

5. John Okafor

John Okafor popularly known to many as Mr. Ibu is the 5th celebrity on my list who will be turning 60 this year. A popular actor and comedian, John Okafor rose to fame especially after appearing in the very popular movie Mr. Ibu and subsequent movies, Mr. Ibu in London and Ibu in Prison. He has become very beloved and very revered in the Nollywood space and come October 17th, John Okafor aka Mr. Ibu will be turning 60.

6. Peter Obi

Nigerian politician and businessman Peter Obi who was once the governor of Anambra State and also the vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be turning 60 come July 19th this year.

7. Joke Silva

Beloved Nollywood actress Joke Silva is a staple of and one of the most respected actresses in Nigeria today. Having an acting career that spans decades, Joke Silva has played a host of different characters and continues to deliver even today. On the 29th of September this year, Joke Silva too will be turning the big 60.
