7 Animated Disney Films That Hopefully Won't Get a Live-Action Remake

Please, don't Disney!

We have seen a plethora of Disney classics get the live-action treatment, including Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King (well that was sort of live-action). These films made bank at the box office due to the childhood nostalgia coming to life. However, one could argue that the remakes don't deserve to get by on nostalgia alone. Most of the remakes appear to be photocopies of their animated counterparts. Some viewers love that, others are upset by the lack of originality. With all that in mind, there are some Disney animated tales that I hope do not get the live-action treatment.

Here are my picks:

Pocahontas

In an era of political correctness, bringing the Disney version of Pocahontas to life would be tricky. A live-action remake of Mulan is set to debut next year. So, one can argue that Pocahontas can be done. The difference is that the Native American princess was a real historical figure and Mulan was not. If you have studied American history, you would know that the story of Pocahontas is far different from the Disney musical. Filmmakers would have to balance between historical accuracy and staying true to the spirit of the original film. I think it would be better to leave the poor girl alone.

The Great Mouse Detective

Some may not be familiar with The Great Mouse Detective, but it is an under-rated classic. It is pretty much the same Sherlock Holmes story except with mice and rats. That may sounds strange, but the characters are delightfully charming and witty. So, why can't this film be a live-action one? Because it wouldn't be live-action if the animal "actors" needed to be CGI. That's the problem with the Lion King remake. You can't technically call it live-action because, well, technically it's still animated. So, what is the point?

Bambi

This charming coming of age story centers around a fawn named Bambi and his woodland friends. Making a live-action version of Bambi would run into the same problem as The Lion King. That problem is computer-animated creatures. They may look incredible from a technical standpoint, but a CGI cast defeats the purpose of a live-action film. Plus, it is difficult to see real emotions on a realistic-looking animal. Emotional connections are the heart of every great Disney film. However, nobody wants to see the tragic death of Bambi's mom come to life.

The Emperor's New Groove

The delightful comedy featured memorable dialogue and talented voice actors like David Spade, John Goodman, and Eartha Kitt. There was also zany adventures and colorful characters. Would all that translate well in a live-action version? Honestly, I highly doubt it. First of all, there would for sure be a CGI llama that would upset fans. Then the comedy would have to be just as funny in a real-life setting. The thing is, some types of humor works better in a cartoon. What looks silly animated, may look stupid in real life.

The Princess and the Frog

Set in New Orleans, a beautiful and ambitious waitress meets a prince who has been turned into a frog. The fairy tale has many elements that could make a magical live-action film. There's the grand city, the voodoo magic, and the mysterious swamp. The only thing that would be weird to see is a real talking frog. A huge part of what makes The Princess and the Frog charming will look creepy and gross in real life.

The Aristocats

Do I need to mention the Lion King dilemma again? Good, so we all know that same dilemma would arise in a live-action Aristocats. Sure, there are some human characters, but the main characters will still be CGI cats playing jazz music. How strange does that sound?

Most Pixar Films

A live-action Pixar movie? Well, let's face it, we know eventually Disney will go down that route. Some films may be great brought to life, like Up, The Incredibles, and even Wall-E. However, films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Cars would not transfer well to live-action. Also, do people want to see a rat in a real kitchen making real ratatouille? No, because in real life that would be gross. Animation has a way to make that appear cute.

Whether we like or not, Disney will continue the cash grab of live-action remakes. Classics such as The Little Mermaid, Mulan, and Pinocchio are already in the works. Will they be good? It's hard to tell right now. I just hope the films mentioned above don't a copycat sort of remake like everything else that has come recently.
