If you were born after 1990, chances are you have seen SpongeBob SquarePants as a kid. One of the most popular shows on Nickelodeon, SpongeBob is currently the fifth longest running animated show. We all know about the titular character; As mentioned in the show's popular theme song, he lives in a pineapple under the sea, he has a pet snail named Gary, he works as a fry cook at The Krusty Krab, and he loves to go jellyfishing. Most of all, he loves to spend time with his friends, especially his best friend Patrick Star. Patrick lives in a rock on the same block and SpongeBob and Squidward. He has won the hearts of kids and grownups alike with his comic relief, stupidity, etc. But there are some times where the potbellied sea star can be a huge jerk. Without further ado, Here are 5 episodes of SpongeBob where I hated Patrick. (Don't get me wrong, Patrick is one of my favorite characters on the show, but there are times where he is cruel. And he currently has a spin-off called The Patrick Star Show)

1. Life of Crime

In the episode, SpongeBob and Patrick decided to "borrow" a balloon (without either one realizing it was National Free Balloon Day) and the balloon eventually popped, and the duo decided to flee town. Later in the episode, SpongeBob has two chocolate bars, and gives one to Patrick. Patrick quickly eats his. He must have suffered from short term memory loss because he forgot that he ate his chocolate, and accused SpongeBob of stealing it. SpongeBob ate his chocolate bar just to spite Patrick, which resulted in Patrick to go to the cops to snitch on SpongeBob. After everything was cleared up, the cops gave SpongeBob and Patrick lollipops. Patrick ate his lollipop and thought that someone else ate it

2. New Student Starfish

Most of us remember this episode. It has the famous 24/25 joke that is now a internet meme. Patrick decides to go to boating school with SpongeBob, and at first SpongeBob thought it was a dream come true, but Patrick drew a picture of Mrs. Puff that said "Big Fat Meanie", passed it to SpongeBob, and Mrs. Puff saw it, blamed SpongeBob for it, took one of SpongeBob's "Good Noodle" stars away, which got him sent to the back of the classroom. Patrick was trying to get SpongeBob's attention, which resulted in SpongeBob getting into more trouble.

3. Battle for Bikini Bottom

Not much to say about this episode, but Patrick thought that being filthy was better than being clean, and he decided to use Krabby Patties as socks to torture and provoke SpongeBob.

4. Sand Castles in the Sand

SpongeBob and Patrick decided to go to the beach to celebrate their friendship. At first, things seem like that they are going well, but when SpongeBob accidentally destroys Patrick's sand castle after trying to help him, Patrick takes it personally, and destroys SpongeBob's castle as retaliation. This leads to the two best friends having a war with each other. Although SpongeBob did some things, Patrick was the one who started it. If he had forgiven SpongeBob earlier then it would not have resorted to them fighting.

5. Yours, Mine and Mine

Okay, out of all of these episodes, this is the one where I hate Patrick the most. In the episode, Patrick wants a Krabby Kiddie Meal, but does not have any money. SpongeBob agrees to pay for it, on the condition that Patrick will share his meal with SpongeBob. Patrick agrees to, but he eats the entire Krabby Patty and does not save SpongeBob even a bite. He demands a refund (even though SpongeBob paid for it) because there is no toy in the kids' meal. Mr. Krabs give them both Patty Pal, and SpongeBob is excited, but then Patrick reminds SpongeBob that they are sharing the toy, (despite him not sharing the Krabby Patty with SpongeBob). SpongeBob gives Patrick Patty Pal, and Patrick says he will give it back by the end of the day. However, Patrick still wants to keep Patty Pal and says SpongeBob can have it tomorrow, When SpongeBob finally shows up to Patrick's house, Patrick tries coming up with excuses, and refuses to give Patty Pal to SpongeBob, resulting in the two fighting. Eventually, this leads to Patrick eating the Patty Pal, leaving SpongeBob enraged and heartbroken. Mr. Krabs allows each of them to have a toy, and Patrick says that he will pay for it, but pulls out SpongeBob's wallet. SpongeBob tells Patrick that it's his money and Patrick asks SpongeBob if he learned nothing about sharing. Let me tell you, that last line ticked me off because Patrick was calling SpongeBob the selfish one, yet he was being selfish through the whole episode.

Interesting take on Patrick. I thought I would never understand after seeing the title. But I see your point!

I'm so sad now. D: I need a happy Spongebob article. Off to find one!

Yes, I still love Spongebob. I remember my son when he was 1-year-old running around the house singing the theme tune at the top of his voice! It's my fault, I got him into it. The characters can be mean, yet they can be caring and funny too.

This was so great! My personal hating Patrick episode has got to be "Rock-a-Bye Bivalve" where SpongeBob and Patrick are parents together! Haha

This was great to read. I remember that episode where everyone left town including Patrick because he found SpongeBob annoying too.

I haven’t watched SpongeBob in about a decade and just had to click on this blast-from-the-past title. This was a delightful topic to pick to write about!
