I am someone who has watched several TV shows with distinctive and incredibly creative plots. So, as of late, most series don't surprise me. But Behind Her Eyes changed that and blew my mind.

Warning: From here on, there will be heavy spoilers.

Long story short, Adele taught her friend Rob about astral projection, a phenomenon during which your soul leaves your body and explores familiar places on its own, invisible. Rob tricks Adele into switching souls with him and kills Adele-in-Rob while his soul lives in Adele's body.

Let me jog your memory and take you through 13 moments of "Ohhhhh. That's what it was."

1. Rob(in Adele) astral-projected early in the series, but we didn't know

Just 18 minutes into the pilot, we see Rob(God, I still find it weird to say it's Rob after thinking it was Adele for 5 episodes) lie down and begin his process. He dreams of the forest, which at the beginning of the series seems vague, but later, the significance is clear.

So, Rob leaves his body and watches over David and Louise right from the start.

2. Several frames are shot from above - Rob's perspective

Most scenes of David and Louise are shot in a mildly eerie way, from above. This hints that they are being watched, and we are looking at them through the eyes of Rob's floating soul.

3. David and "Adele" can't seem to get intimate

While "Adele" is enthusiastic and repeats her love for David, he appears to be distant and uncomfortable. He can't look in her eyes while they attempt to make love, and Rob-in-Adele senses it.

He stops and moves away in perplexion, and then Rob-in-Adele prompts him to take her from behind. It shows us that this is not the first time David feels disconnected from his wife during intercourse. Even while doing it this way, David's efforts seem forced and unnatural, while Rob enjoys it.

4. "Adele" paints the woods in the bedroom

We see Rob-in-Adele paint the woods and as "she" runs her hands over the wall, the flashback shows her hand on a tree, wearing David's watch. And then the camera takes us to the bottom of the well, where we find the watch.

This shows that killing "Rob" was no accident, and since the real Adele had no motive to kill her best friend, it could only be something else.

5. David is horrified by the painting

We see David get disgusted and shocked, asking "Why would you do this?" To him, it was the beginning of torture, guilt, and pain. But to Rob, that was the beginning of his dream life.

6. The new Adele is a marvelous chef

In quite a few scenes, we see "Adele" whip up elaborate meals, whereas the real Adele was not much of a cook. Rob, however, is an excellent chef, as shown later.

7. Adele's style died with her

The real Adele had long, soft waves and wore summery dresses. She appears carefree and charming, and just a little awkward. Rob-in-Adele has a starkly opposite hairdo and an overall chic, proper sense of fashion. There is a coldness about her that David is totally unfamiliar with.

8. Rob's style is carried over to "Louise"

Rob adores all things French, and we see this influence when he takes over Louise's body as well. (Notice the beret)

9. Rob-in-Adele set Louise up

Although he tore out the pages about astral projection from his diary, Rob knew that eventually, Louise would figure out astral projection too. And if ever the need arose, Rob would know exactly how to get rid of Louise's soul and be the one David loves. Again.

10. Adele and Rob had different "soul colors"

From the first time they astral-project together, we notice the biggest giveaway. The color of Adele's floating orb is pink. And Rob is the one whose color is blue - the color that we've seen the new Adele's orb to be.

11. "Adele" is aggressive with Marianne

We see "Adele" snap out of her properness and call Marianne a "miserable, old twat with only a cat for company". Why does that sound familiar? It is the same crass language Rob used when he spoke to Marjorie, a staff member at the rehab center.

12. Rob is jealous of Adele, not David

The night that Rob stays over, his soul leaves his body to watch David and Adele make love. And this hint was what made it suddenly obvious to me that Rob wanted David, not Adele.

The frame we are shown is Rob's perspective, and not for one moment does he focus on Adele in bed. He looks intently at David, watching his every expression and move.

13. The instant transformation of Adele after "Rob" dies

When the real Adele waited for David at the entrance of their mansion, she did so fearlessly, glowing and upright. But the new "Adele" slunk in the shadows, covering. Just like Rob did. And the clincher was when "she" forces herself to cry, to put on an act. This showed that it was not Adele anymore.

The real Adele would have been wracked with guilt and grief, but not Rob. Rob was ready for his new shiny life.

Having read many reviews that most of 'Behind Her Eyes' is slow-paced, I was so lethargic. I watched my laptop lazily as I also scrolled through Instagram. So, it is with much embarrassment that I admit I had to watch this series a second time to notice half of these hints

Behind Her Eyes shocked us and left us wanting more of this twisted drama. There is no official confirmation whether there will be a second season, but I hope there is. God knows there is definitely one hell of a story left to be told.
