Engineering is one of many crafting professions in World of Warcraft Cataclysm (WoW Cata). This profession uses metal resources to create items. In this article, we will guide you through the Engineering profession. We will first look at what Engineering is and then the materials you need to level up the profession. Lastly, we’ll recommend a secondary profession that fits with the Engineering profession.

What is The Engineering Profession?

Engineering in WoW Cata is one of many crafting professions that make use of in-game resources to create items such as gizmos, goggles, gadgets, explosives, trinkets, pets, and a lot more. The Engineering profession used to also craft ammo, but this feature has since been removed. Crafted items may also be sold for some cataclysm gold through the Auction House.

Secondary Profession for Engineering

Since Engineering requires gathering some ores and metals, the only secondary profession fit for that is Mining.

Best Race and Class for Engineering

The best race for Engineering is the gnome race. They have an Engineering Specialization racial trait that adds 15 to the Engineering profession. Note: The Specialization trait is different from the profession.

Tips and Tricks

Some crafted items cannot be sold at the Auction House because all Engineering professions need at least the required amount of that item to level up. This means that items like the Elementium Toolbox have very little to no resale value. Meanwhile, consumable items like explosives, weapon attachments, and gizmos can be sold because of demand.

Remember to go back to your trainers to level up the Engineering profession. In WoW Cata, trainers can now teach up to Level 525 so all the trainers you meet can be revisited at any time.
