Who doesn't like to play video games every once in a while? Depending on what kinds of games you play, it can also be a very relaxing way to spend your day off. Some people might think playing video games all day is a waste of time, but is it really a waste if you are enjoying yourself? Below are some things you can try to make your video gaming experience even better!

Wear Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Taking in too much blue light, which is the name for light emitted by screens (including phone, TV, and computer screens), can hurt your eyes and even make it harder to fall asleep at night if you play video games before bed. Some phones and computers may come with a blue light filter you can turn on in the device's settings. However, this is relatively new technology and will most likely not come preinstalled on most devices, even if they are only a year or two old. So, if you still want to filter blue light, your best bet is to wear blue light blocking glasses. All you need to wear these glasses as you would wear any other type of glasses in order for them to work. If you need to wear prescription glasses, you can find blue light blocking glasses that can fit over your normal glasses as well. Wear these while you game to protect your eyes!

Take Screen Breaks

It is important to take screen breaks often, whether you are staring at a TV or computer, for fun or work. This is true whether you are using a blue light filter or wearing blue light blocking glasses. However, taking breaks is more important when you do not have anything blocking out blue light. Generally speaking, it is best to take a 5 to 10 minute break for every hour you are staring at a screen. Try to take these breaks on the hour, rather than taking longer breaks every few hours. This will help to give your eyes the rest they deserve. After all, playing video games is more enjoyable when it doesn't hurt to look at a screen!

Get Up and Stretch

Just like it is important to take breaks to give your eyes a rest, it is important to get up to stretch to keep your body moving. If you are sitting in one spot for two long, it can cause your muscles to hurt (no matter whether you are gaming on a computer or TV). It is also likely that your back will begin to hurt after a while. Luckily, you can do some easy back stretches to solve this problem. Do these stretches when you are taking your screen breaks to make the breaks even more effective at both keeping your body comfortable and making your gaming more enjoyable as well.

Know When to Shut Down

When should you shut down your video games for the night? This depends on a lot of things. One of the most important factors that contribute to when you should quit a game is based on what time you want to go to bed. According to the National Sleep Foundation, you should try to stop looking at screens at least half an hour before you plan on going to bed. This is in part to do with blue light and in part to do with how active your brain is. While quitting before bedtime will not necessarily make gaming more enjoyable, it can make your day a lot easier in the morning, as you will be able to get a better night of sleep.

Spending your day off playing videos can be fun and rewarding. Now, you know some more ways to make it even more enjoyable. So, whether you are playing farming simulators or war games, you can do all of these tips to make your day a little better.
