So, in my past stories, I’ve chatted about all sorts of awesome simulation games. You’ll find the links to those goodies at the end of this post, so make sure to give ’em a look!

But today, I wanna focus on American Truck Simulator and how trucking companies are getting all creative by buying billboards in the game for real-life advertising.

What is American Truck Simulator?

Alright, buckle up, my friend, because I’m about to take you on a wild ride through the virtual highways of the American Truck Simulator!

Picture this: you’re sitting in the driver’s seat of a big rig, your hands gripping the steering wheel, and the open road stretching out before you. You’re the king of the asphalt, cruising through the vast landscapes of the good ol’ US of A.

American Truck Simulator, or ATS for short, is a video game that lets you experience the thrill and challenges of being a trucker. Developed by SCS Software, the same folks behind Euro Truck Simulator 2, ATS puts you in the driver’s seat of various iconic American trucks. From the mighty Peterbilt to the classic Kenworth, you’ll have a wide range of beasts to choose from.

The game recreates the American landscape in stunning detail. You’ll find yourself traversing highways that wind through diverse regions like California, Nevada, Arizona, and more.

Each state has its own unique characteristics, from bustling cities to sleepy towns and picturesque countryside. The attention to detail is incredible, with famous landmarks and recognizable landscapes dotting the virtual world.

But it’s not all about the sights and sounds. American Truck Simulator throws real-world challenges at you, making sure you feel the pressure of being a real trucker. You’ll have to manage your fuel consumption, watch out for speed limits, and navigate through tricky weather conditions. And let’s not forget the dreaded rush hour traffic and road works that can turn a smooth ride into a nerve-wracking ordeal.

As you gain experience and complete jobs, you’ll earn money to upgrade and customize your truck. Want a flashy paint job or some extra horsepower under the hood? Go for it! You can also hire AI drivers to work for your trucking company, expanding your empire and earning even more cash.

So, whether you’re a truck enthusiast, a fan of simulation games, or just looking for a way to experience the vastness of America from the comfort of your own home, American Truck Simulator is the game for you.

It’s a thrilling journey through the highways and byways of the United States, where you can immerse yourself in the life of a trucker, build your own trucking empire, and even see real-life advertisements along the way. So hop in, rev up that engine, and let’s hit the road!

What’s with the advertisements?

So, get this: Schneider National, a real trucking company, is actually paying for ads in American Truck Simulator to try and convince people to come to work for them. Yeah, you heard that right!

The folks over at SCS Software, the ones who made American Truck Simulator, spilled the beans in a blog post. They mentioned that now you’ll see billboards in the game advertising Schneider National and telling you to check out their careers website.

Pretty cool, huh? But don’t get too attached, ’cause it might just be a temporary thing. SCS said they’re just testing it out for now. Still, they’re pretty stoked about the idea and think it could be a game-changer for their own games and the auto industry in general.

Before this, the billboards in American Truck Simulator were all about promoting new updates for their game. But then Schneider National came along and pitched this campaign to SCS, and they were totally down for it. They’re all about expanding the game and helping out the trucking industry.

Now, not everyone’s thrilled about these in-game ads. Some folks are worried that SCS might start shoving ads for other companies and products in the game. Who knows, right? But SCS wants to reassure everyone that their main goal is to create a fun and immersive gaming experience.

In fact, they said, and I quote:

“We think it’s cool to have industry-related stuff in the game. Plus, with so many players seeing our billboards, who knows?

Maybe someone will come across a recruiting sign and think about applying to Schneider National or even consider a career in trucking.”

Yeah, they’re all about getting people interested in the real deal.

Final Words

Now, this isn’t the first time in-game billboards were used for promotion.

Back in 2008, when Barack Obama was running for president, his campaign actually put up billboards in games like Burnout and a bunch of other titles.

And remember Battlefield 2142? Yeah, that game had in-game ads too, but they got a lot of flak for it. So, it’s a bit of a hit or miss, you know?
