The Last Assassin

The Untold Story of the Brotherhood's Final Warrior

By Muhammad TayyabPublished 4 months ago • 4 min read

The city slept beneath a blanket of fog.

From the rooftops, it looked peaceful. Lanterns glowed along narrow streets, and the distant sound of church bells echoed through the night. But beneath that calm surface, a silent war had been raging for centuries.

The Brotherhood of Assassins had once been powerful. Their influence stretched across kingdoms and empires. They worked in the shadows, protecting freedom and fighting those who sought absolute control. Yet time had not been kind to them.

One by one, Assassin strongholds had fallen.

Mentors had disappeared.

Hidden libraries had been burned.

The Creed itself had nearly vanished from history.

Now, only one Assassin remained.

His name was Elias.

No songs were sung about him. No statues were built in his honor. Most people never even knew he existed. Yet the future of the Brotherhood rested entirely upon his shoulders.

Elias had been born during the Brotherhood's darkest years. As a child, he had never seen the glory that older Assassins spoke of. Instead, he grew up among ruins and whispers.

His mentor, an aging Assassin named Victor, taught him everything he knew.

“Remember,” Victor would often say, “our strength has never come from numbers. It comes from purpose.”

Elias carried those words with him throughout his life.

Years later, Victor died defending one of the Brotherhood’s final safehouses.

Before taking his last breath, he handed Elias a small metal key.

“There is something hidden,” Victor whispered. “Something the Templars can never find.”

“What is it?” Elias asked.

“The future.”

Those were the mentor’s final words.

For months afterward, Elias searched for answers. The key became his only clue. He traveled through abandoned Assassin hideouts, forgotten tunnels, and ancient ruins scattered across the continent.

Everywhere he went, he found evidence of the Brotherhood's fall.

Broken hidden blades.

Burned journals.

Empty sanctuaries.

It felt as though history itself was disappearing.

Yet he refused to give up.

Eventually, his journey led him to an isolated mountain fortress marked on an ancient Assassin map.

The fortress had been abandoned for decades.

Snow covered its walls.

Time had nearly erased its existence.

Inside, Elias discovered a hidden chamber deep beneath the stone foundation.

At the center stood an iron door.

The key fit perfectly.

With a loud metallic click, the lock opened.

Beyond the door lay something extraordinary.

Rows of shelves stretched into darkness.

Ancient manuscripts filled every corner.

Maps, journals, records, and teachings collected over hundreds of years rested untouched.

It was the Lost Archive of the Brotherhood.

The knowledge of countless generations had survived.

For a moment, Elias simply stood in silence.

The Brotherhood was not completely gone.

A piece of it still lived.

But his relief did not last long.

Footsteps echoed behind him.

Someone had followed him.

A voice emerged from the darkness.

“At last.”

Elias turned slowly.

Standing at the entrance was a Templar commander named Adrian Blackwood.

For years, Blackwood had hunted the Assassins.

Many believed he was responsible for destroying most of the Brotherhood's remaining sanctuaries.

His cold smile revealed that the search was finally over.

“You saved me years of work,” Blackwood said.

Elias immediately understood the danger.

If the Templars obtained the archive, centuries of Assassin knowledge would be lost forever.

Blackwood stepped forward.

“The Brotherhood is dead,” he said. “You are the last survivor.”

“Then one survivor is enough.”

The Templar laughed.

“You still believe that?”

Elias looked around the archive.

Every book represented sacrifices made by generations before him.

Every page carried stories of people who had dedicated their lives to protecting freedom.

No.

The Brotherhood was not dead.

Not while someone still remembered its purpose.

Blackwood drew his sword.

The final battle began.

Steel clashed inside the ancient chamber.

The sound echoed through the vault like thunder.

Blackwood was older but experienced.

Elias was faster.

Their fight carried years of conflict between Assassins and Templars.

They moved between shelves and stone pillars.

Sparks flew as blades collided.

Neither warrior gave ground.

Minutes felt like hours.

Finally, Blackwood gained an advantage.

A powerful strike knocked Elias to the floor.

Pain shot through his body.

For the first time, defeat felt possible.

Blackwood raised his sword.

“This is the end.”

But then Elias remembered Victor’s words.

Our strength has never come from numbers. It comes from purpose.

Using the last of his strength, he rolled aside.

The sword struck stone.

Before Blackwood could recover, Elias countered.

Moments later, the battle was over.

Silence returned to the archive.

Blackwood had fallen.

The threat was gone.

But Elias understood that victory alone would not save the Brotherhood.

Knowledge hidden away would eventually be forgotten.

The Creed needed a future.

Over the following years, Elias traveled across distant lands.

He searched for people with courage, discipline, and a desire to protect others.

He trained them.

Not as soldiers.

Not as killers.

But as guardians of the Creed.

Slowly, the Brotherhood began to grow again.

One student became two.

Two became five.

Five became many.

The Assassins would never dominate the world.

That was never their goal.

Their purpose was simply to stand against those who sought to control it.

Years later, when Elias had grown old, one of his students asked a question.

“Master, what happened to the last Assassin?”

Elias smiled.

“The last Assassin never existed.”

The student looked confused.

“What do you mean?”

Elias gazed toward the horizon.

“As long as someone believes in the Creed, there will always be another Assassin.”

The student nodded slowly.

Only then did he understand.

The Brotherhood had survived not because of hidden blades or secret fortresses.

It survived because its ideals were stronger than any enemy.

And somewhere in the shadows, beneath moonlit rooftops and silent towers, the legacy of the last Assassin continued to live on.
