The Hidden Legacy

The Forgotten Legacy of Arno Dorian

By Muhammad TayyabPublished 3 months ago • 4 min read

Most people remembered Arno Dorian as the Assassin who survived the chaos of the French Revolution. His name appeared in scattered Brotherhood records, usually alongside stories of political conspiracies, hidden battles, and the fall of powerful Templars.

But history only told part of the story.

What happened after the Revolution was something very few people knew.

Years had passed since the events that changed Arno's life forever. Paris was no longer the city he once knew. The streets were calmer, the crowds less fearful, and the sound of revolution had faded into memory. Yet for Arno, some wounds never truly healed.

The loss of Élise remained with him.

There were days when he would walk through the city and remember the moments they shared. Sometimes he found himself standing in places where they once met, lost in memories of a future that never came to be.

Time moved forward.

Arno did as well.

Instead of allowing grief to consume him, he devoted himself to the Brotherhood. The French Assassins had suffered greatly during years of conflict. Many members were gone, safe houses had been abandoned, and trust had become difficult to rebuild.

Arno believed the Brotherhood needed more than skilled fighters.

It needed hope.

For years, he traveled across France, helping Assassin cells reconnect with one another. He trained young recruits, shared lessons learned from his mistakes, and reminded them that being an Assassin was about more than carrying a hidden blade.

It was about protecting freedom.

Many of the younger Assassins admired him. They knew the stories. They knew what he had endured. Yet Arno rarely spoke about his victories.

Instead, he often spoke about failure.

“Learn from your mistakes,” he would tell them. “They teach more than success ever will.”

The words surprised many recruits. They expected tales of glory. What they received were lessons about responsibility, patience, and sacrifice.

As the years passed, the Brotherhood slowly recovered.

New safe houses appeared. New members joined. The Order began to regain the strength it had once lost.

Still, Arno never considered his work finished.

One winter evening, an Assassin messenger arrived with troubling news. Reports suggested that a group of former Templars had begun searching for an artifact believed to contain sensitive information about Assassin operations throughout Europe.

If discovered, countless Brotherhood secrets could be exposed.

Although no longer a young man, Arno volunteered to investigate.

Some members objected.

“You've already done enough,” one of them argued.

Arno simply smiled.

“Then let me do a little more.”

The search led him across forgotten ruins, abandoned estates, and hidden tunnels beneath old cities. Along the way, he uncovered fragments of a conspiracy that had survived long after the Revolution ended.

The artifact itself proved difficult to find.

Every clue seemed to lead to another mystery.

Weeks turned into months.

Eventually, Arno discovered that the artifact had been hidden beneath an ancient fortress far from Paris. The journey was dangerous, and by the time he arrived, the Templars were already close behind.

What followed was not a grand battle remembered by history.

There were no cheering crowds.

No celebrations.

No monuments.

Only a handful of people would ever know what happened there.

Arno succeeded in securing the artifact and preventing it from falling into enemy hands. The Brotherhood's secrets remained protected.

But during the mission, he realized something important.

One day, he would be gone.

Every Assassin eventually reached that point.

The question was not whether he would be remembered.

The question was what he would leave behind.

When he returned to Paris, Arno began writing.

Night after night, he filled pages with lessons, memories, and reflections gathered throughout his life. He wrote about his victories, but also about his regrets. He wrote about friendship, loyalty, loss, and the difficult choices that shaped his journey.

Most importantly, he wrote about Élise.

Not because he wished to relive the past.

But because her story had become part of his own.

The journal grew larger with each passing year.

Eventually, it became known among a small circle of trusted Assassins as The Hidden Legacy.

Unlike official Brotherhood records, it contained something far more valuable.

Wisdom.

Arno never intended the journal to become famous.

He simply hoped that future Assassins might learn from it.

As age caught up with him, he spent less time in the field and more time mentoring younger members of the Order. Watching them grow reminded him of his own early days.

They were faster than he was.

Stronger, perhaps.

But they carried the same determination he once had.

That gave him comfort.

One spring morning, Arno visited the rooftops overlooking Paris.

The city stretched before him beneath the golden light of sunrise.

For a long time, he stood in silence.

This city had taken so much from him.

Yet it had also given him purpose.

Looking across the skyline, he felt something he had not felt in years.

Peace.

Not because the world was perfect.

It never would be.

But because he knew the Brotherhood's future no longer depended on one man.

Others would continue the fight.

Others would carry the Creed forward.

And that was enough.

Years later, after Arno's passing, a young Assassin discovered an old wooden chest hidden inside a forgotten Brotherhood sanctuary.

Inside rested a weathered journal.

Its pages had yellowed with age, but the writing remained clear.

On the first page were simple words written in Arno's hand:

"A legacy is not measured by what we leave behind. It is measured by those who choose to carry it forward."

The young Assassin spent weeks reading the journal.

By the time he finished, he understood something many historians never would.

Arno Dorian's greatest achievement was not defeating enemies during the French Revolution.

It was ensuring that the Brotherhood would survive long after he was gone.

History remembered the Revolution.

The Brotherhood remembered Arno.

And within the pages of The Hidden Legacy, his story continued to inspire generations yet to come.

The End. ⚔️📖
