On Friday, Joe Root, a highly skilled batsman from England, displayed his exceptional talent by scoring an outstanding century on the first day of the opening Ashes 2023 Test against Australia at Edgbaston.

After Ben Stokes won the coin toss and chose to bat first, Joe Root emerged as the highest scorer for the home team. He played a fantastic innings, remaining not out with an impressive 118 runs off 152 balls. In his innings, the 32-year-old struck seven fours and hit four sixes.

In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Sir Don Bradman on the prestigious list of batsmen with the highest number of Test centuries. Sir Don Bradman, an iconic Australian cricketer, had concluded his career with 29 centuries in 52 Test matches. Root, on the other hand, now boasts an impressive total of 30 centuries, achieved during his 131st Test match playing for England.

Surpassing Bradman's record is seen as a remarkable accomplishment for any player because Bradman is widely recognized as the greatest batsman in the history of the sport. His Test record of 6,996 runs at an incredible average of 99.94 serves as a true testament to his legendary status.

There are some batsmen who have scored more centuries in Test cricket than the legendary Sir Donald Bradman.

Although it may not be fair to compare Bradman to batters from different eras, it is worth noting that only 15 batters have surpassed his impressive record of 29 Test centuries. It's remarkable considering that Bradman retired way back in 1948.

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, often hailed as a modern-day equivalent to the legendary Bradman, holds the remarkable record for the highest number of centuries in Test cricket. Sachin achieved an incredible feat of scoring 51 centuries during his illustrious career spanning 200 Test matches. Smith, who still has several years of cricket ahead of him, can certainly increase his tally of 31 centuries. Root, the latest addition to this prestigious club, is now on par with Matthew Hayden and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, both of whom finished their careers with 30 Test centuries each.

Among the batters playing today, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli are just one century away from matching the legendary Bradman's record.
