Ranking the Assassins Creed Protagonist's based on their devotion to the Creed: Part 1

A very nerdy article

So, how does one start by looking at this? With little hesitation, a head full of front-of-the-brain knowledge, and chronological order. Let's look at how willing each Assassin from the Assassin's Creed series is in willing to serve their creed, and the personal motives behind why they are or aren't. Well rate these guys, and girls, on a scale of Very willing, all the way down to not willing at all.

Number One: Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad

Introduced in: Assassin's Creed (released 2007)

Willingness: High.

Altaïr would lay down his life to protect the Leviathan Brotherhood where he served as an Assassin, but not without a cost. Within the first mission of the game, he murder's a fellow brotherhood assassin so as not to let an enemy take the Apple of Eden, a very powerful artifact the Assassin's and their enemies, the Templar Order, have been fighting over for a LONG time.

Later in the game as Altaïr progresses through the ranks, again as he was disowned in the beginning of the game, he understands more about the Apple of Eden, and learns that his Master, Al Mualim, is a Templar; the Assassins sworn enemy.

Altaïr kills Al Mualim, taking the Apple for himself to learn all that he can. He would later return to the Leviathan Brotherhood with all he had learned from the Apple, using it to push the Brotherhood further into the future, brining about the wrist mounted pistol that would be used by another Assassin, Ezio Auditore. Nice Segway.

Number Two: Ezio Auditore de Ferinze

Featured in Assassin's Creed Two, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed: Revelation's.

Willingness: Very High.

Right. The Assassin that had 3 video games made out of his entire life, lines and line of collectible figures, books, short animated movies. The pen ultimate of Ezio's life was revealed in Assassin's Creed: Embers. If your a big a fan as I am and haven't seen it, I suggest you do so. And bring a crying towel, because you might need it.

Ezio started his Assassin training with the help of very famous historical figures like Machiavelli and Leonardo Da Vinci to name a couple. There were more, but I'm not THAT good at character memory. Ezio would train himself, and eventually other's to hunt down Templars in the Renaissance Era in parts of Italy.

Learning of a plot to take down all the Templars that had a hand in his families murder, Ezio would take the Creed's motto and colors with gusto, going until the weathering age of around 5o before he started to finally slow down. The events of Assassin's Creed Revelations see Ezio fighting to learn about what Altaïr taught himself in the years prior, before his death on august 12, 1257.

Ezio in the events of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was fighting against the tyranny of Rome, his mission to avenge his family having been completed. Still living to serve the Assassin Order, however, Ezio saw himself taking down numerous Templars before finally coming face to face with Rodrigo Borgia, a Templar Master in possession of an Apple of Eden. Yes indeed, there was more than one. One was destroyed, and the ancestor to Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor Kennway, Desmond Miles, was needed.

Number Three: Connor Kenway

Willingness: Very High

Born a Native American, but not the first Assassin of a different ethnicity; that honor went to Altaïr, who was of Hebrew/Arabic descent.

Connor would come into the care of an older and retired Assassin, Achilles Davenport. While a harsh teacher, probably wanting to be left alone after the events caused by Assassin turned Templar Shay Cormac, Achilles trained Connor to be an Assassin. Connor came to achilles as a young boy, not older then 17 or 18, and learned what the Creed was about. Honor. Integrity. Brotherhood. A axe with the Assassin seal as the fucking blade!

SO COOL!

Sorry, where were we? Right. Honor.

Connor's devotion to the cause steamed from the murder of his Native tribe by the Templar named Charles Lee. While Connor's own father, Haytham Kenway, was the Grand Master in Colonial America at the time, Connor would eventually come to kill his own father. After Charles Lee came into possession of a piece of Eden that could have been used to bring about the end of the world, Connor would take down Charles, and reclaim the Piece for himself; taking it literally to his grave.

This would set in motion events hundreds of years later into the present day, where the modern Templar Order would capture one Desmond Miles, ancestor to Altaïr and Ezio alike. Connor played a hand in this trio by having the Piece of Eden with him when he passed, and Desmond's genetic memories would allow him to find the Piece by exploring Connors's memories.

Number 4: Desmond Miles.

Willingness: Un-mesurable.

Your about to see what I mean by that.

First though, how would you feel if you were a bartender one minute, then woke up in a underground lab the next? And the lab is used to strap people into tables and extract their memories by them living vicariously through their ancestors. Heavy stuff, right?

This was Desmond's non-negotiable role in Assassin's Creed. Kidnaped by the Templar Order and made to relive the memories of his ancestors, all to locate Pieces of Eden for the Templars to gain control of.

Ok, so Desmond had help getting away from the Templars with fellow Assassin Lucy Stillman. Lucy was actually a Templar with Assassin friends, while at the same time an Assassin who had infiltrated the Templars, while being a Templar. Through the first games in the series, as well as the books, It's clear that Lucy has a knack for lying, as well as playing both sides of the field.

As Desmond escapes from the Templar Order, he meets fellow Assassin's Shawn Hastings and Rebecca Crane, and the four hide out under the ruins of Monteriggioni, the former base of operations of Assassin Ezio Auditore. (See, it's all connected!)

While hiding out, Desmond finishes exploring the memories of Ezio, and finds out where the Apple of Eden is hidden in the real world. Lucy, Desmond, Shawn and Rebecca head out to track it down, and succeed in doing so. This takes place during the events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, where Ezio finds the resting place of Altaïr.

In their finding of the Apple, however, Desmond is taken control of by "Those Who Came Before." Juno, specifically, guides Desmond to kill Lucy, getting her out of the way so that Those Who Came Before can continue their plan to destroy the world.

THis would have been done with a solar flare. However as Desmond's father, William Miles, finds his son, he takes him to a conduit, a place of power for Those who came before. Desmond now explores the memories of Connor Kenway to unlock the gate to prevent Juno from destroying the world. While doing so, Desmond struggles along side a failed experiment of the Templars, subject 16: Clay Kaczmerak. Along with his own crumbling sanity towards the end of the events of Assassin's Creed Three, Clay tells Desmond of the impending fate of the world, unless Desmond stops it.

At the cost of his own life, Desmond does just that. The Piece of Eden needed to unlock the gate is found, and Desmond sacrifices himself to stop Juno, listening to Minerva, another of Those Who Came Before. Juno had evil intentions to end the world, seeing it tiresome that Templars' and Assassin's had been fighting over Pieces of Eden for centuries. They had originally been created to help mankind, but this went poorly as the rich and powerful sought use the Pieces for their own gain.

To prevent Juno's plans, Desmond touches the Eye, a device in the center of the conduit, the temple, to sacrifice himself and prevent the solar flare. The alternative, in listening to what Minerva has to say, would be to let the solar flare cook the Earth, but allow Desmond to rebuild it, becoming a herald of sorts and guiding humanity back to what it was thousands of years ago.

Desmond chooses to listen to Juno, much to Minerva's dismay. Instead of the solar flare destroying the Earth, Desmond's sacrifice sees a world-wide aurora borealis wrap around Earth, causing electrical storms and other phenomenon.

With the world now safe, Juno congratulates Desmond's body on job well done, and ensures that her own part will now be played.

With Desmond gone, his father William, Shawn, and Rebecca go their separate ways to continue to fight the modern Templar oppression.

So, that's where the first installment of games ends. While Those Who Came Before's story isn't over, however this next part will see us continuing to look at them and their goals through the eyes of other Assassins, such as Edward Kenway, Arno Dorian, and Shay Cormac.

Overall here, Desmond Miles's devotion will top this ranking list, as he let himself be used to prevent the literal end of the world. This is not to say that the Assassin's who were ancestors were not useful, but they played their own parts in moving the world into a better place, and shape it how it is today.

I hope you all enjoyed this, and if you enjoyed it enough leave a tip or a like to show your appreciation. I'll see you all for part two.
