The Pokémon cards are making a huge comeback nowadays: The trading cards of Pokémon that were trendy in the end of the nineties are now sold extremely expensively. Sometimes it's huge prices that are charged for cards with the Pokémon.

Collectors and big fans of the Pokémon are willing to pay a lot of money at the trade to get a rare card of Pokémon, if the Pokémon card grading is high. The value of the cards depends on one hand on the rarity of the card and on the other hand on its condition. If a card is rare and in very good condition, the card rating can be very positive - and thus you would achieve a high price as a seller in the event of a sale.

Pokémon cards: Determine Value - Determine Rarity

All cards in the Pokémon trading card game have a so-called rarity level. You can usually find the rarity level at the bottom right. It is defined by the following symbols:

- stands for common. In most boosters there are five such cards.

♦ is printed on unusual cards. In boosters there are usually three of these cards.

★ stands for rare. In boosters there is usually one rare card.

★H or ★★★ are a bit rarer still. The H in the symbol stands for the holographic effect of the card. In boosters, they replace the rare card with a simple star.

Ultra Rares are also marked with a ★, but stand out from rare cards because of their card design. Most ultra rare cards have additional designations in their names, such as GX, Lv.X, or ex. Many of these cards are already worth a few euros in good condition.

Rainbow Rares are completely silver cards with a striking rainbow effect. They have a noticeable embossing and are even rarer than ultra rare cards. Rainbow Rares usually trade at a mid double-digit euro amount.

Secret Rares are littered with gold effects. You can recognize them by their gold ★H symbol, gold border, and sparkling appearance. They are among the rarest Pokémon trading cards.

The valuable card of Charizard

Pokémon cards are once again very popular with fans and collectors today. For a box of Pokémon trading cards that is still locked, someone is said to have paid as much as $408,000 as part of an auction. And that's not all: The sealed box with the coveted cards of the first edition from 1999 could be worth even more, as the portal gamepro.de (as of January 20) further reports.

The main reason for this enormous high value is that the locked box could contain a rare card of the Pokémon Charizard. Charizard is a very popular dragon who can breathe fire and has a lot of fans. Charizard also played a major role in the anime, which was broadcast on television at the time. Charizard also appeared in films that were also shown in the cinema.

This single card alone is worth a fortune - in the first edition about 350,000 dollars. That's why "Heritage Auctions" offers interested fans the opportunity to make the new owner an offer that, according to the report, even stood at $ 530,400.

What are the reasons why the cards are back in the hype?

Especially through streamers, for example on Twitch or YouTube, the hype about collecting the cards has become hyped again. So the streamers have contributed their part to the fact that there is nowadays again such a big hype about the Late nineties trendy Pokémon trading cards. Fans and collectors find it very exciting, when the moment has come, when the "packs" are opened, is reported again and again. The better the condition of the included trading cards, the higher their value.

Fans and collectors

However, it is the case that not only trading cards, but also, for example, coins, Disney films on VHS cassettes or rare shoes are very popular with collectors. Disney films on the cassettes are often sold for sums in the three-digit or even four-digit range.

It is therefore advisable to take a closer look at his collection at home to see if there is a valuable piece for collectors among older stuff, which is not in use anymore. But for someone else it could be a very attractive colletible.
