NODWIN Gaming and PVR Limited, India's largest cinema exhibition company, announced today collaboration on an innovative entertainment experience with the launch of India's first In-Cinema Esports live tournaments.
The pilot will begin with the popular game ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI)' and will progress to include games from various genres. Gamers and gaming enthusiasts from all over the country will be able to compete in Online Esports Cups and In-Cinema tournaments with different prize pools for each city.
This initiative is expected to accelerate the growth of esports entertainment in India by combining the appeal of esports gaming with the magic of the big-screen experience. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals of the cups will be broadcasted in select PVR Cinemas in each participating city, as well as live streams on various digital platforms, including the NODWIN Facebook page.
NODWIN Gaming has emphasized the importance of reinforcing grassroots development
NODWIN Gaming has always emphasized the importance of reinforcing grassroots development that can serve as a solid and dependable foundation for esports, and this property is a step in that direction. City-level penetration of professional esports results in solid exposure for the grassroots ecosystem, and as we've seen in the past, the more exposed the grassroots is, the better it performs at the higher tiers. This, in turn, paves the way for the collective growth of professional players at all levels. Our collaboration with PVR Cinemas opens the door to mainstreaming esports and putting it right in the heart of the entertainment industry.
Esports, as an emerging medium of interactive entertainment, has had its fair share of attention in crowded arenas, but it's about time they brought the action to the big screen. NODWIN, in addition to building grassroots, will provide its audience with a premium viewing experience through this partnership, according to Akshat Rathee, MD & Co-Founder, NODWIN Gaming.
PVR strives to continually evolve as an entertainment destination
PVR strives to constantly evolve as an entertainment destination, providing customers with the opportunity to have an entertaining escape into more than just big movies. Their immersive environment is particularly well suited to the gaming community, immersing players in the universes in which they compete. According to Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Limited, they are excited to bring big games to the big screen in collaboration with NODWIN Gaming.
PVR's mission is to unite, grow, and entertain communities. As a part of the Indian esports ecosystem, they will be able to serve their purpose by providing PVR communities with another entertaining way to gather on their esports platform. The NODWIN team has an unwavering passion for gaming, and they are thrilled to be collaborating with them on this initiative, according to Kamal Gianchandani, Chief of Strategy, PVR Limited.
With various initiatives and programmes launched in the last month, they appear to be stepping up their efforts to galvanise and promote the esports sector and gaming scene in India.
They recently partnered with ChessBase India to launch the Chess Super League, a new online chess league (CSL). They had also recently announced the exclusive Hindi broadcast of the Asia Pacific Last Chance Qualifiers on its official YouTube channel from 11 October to 17 October to cater to a large portion of India's Hindi-speaking population.
