'No Man's Sky' Is Finally Coming Out Soon!

For those who've been in limbo since Hello Games' near radio silence after E3, it's finally time to get pumped again. Sean Murray of Hello Games has announced today that No Man's Sky finally has a release date. The game is going to be launched on June 21st for PS4 and PC! Nice!

The concept of No Man's Sky was something that intrigued a lot of people the moment it was announced, if only because it was so ambitious (especially for an indie developer). The game revolves around exploration and discovery in an entirely open world.

When the developers said an open world, they meant it in every sense of the word. Every star you see is a sun you can travel to all with its own planets that you can then land on. The planets, flora, and fauna are all procedurally generated so you never really know what to expect. Even the developers themselves are surprised by what they find when they touch down on a planet. That kind of open universe is a tall order for a team consisting of no more than ten people, but it looks like they managed to pull it off.

Another part of Murray's announcement was that the game will be available both in digital and Blu-ray format for the PS4 which is something he's very excited about.

I remember when I sat in the audience and saw Sony putting LittleBigPlanet on stage for the first time, I knew that it no longer mattered how many people worked on your game, and that not every game had to start with a 10-minute CGI cut scene. I can’t believe we’re about to follow in their footsteps as an even smaller studio with their game in real, actual shops.

Having a game that can be physically bought in a store will give more people a chance to join in on the exploration and make their mark on the near infinite universe of No Man's Sky.

Having the potential for more people to buy their game gives Hello Games a chance to keep supporting the game for free after release without the need for DLCs. That's a good thing because, according to Sean, the game is done, but at the same time there's always more do to.

No Man’s Sky will launch as a complete game in June, but there’s a lot we’d like to add post-launch, if we can.

Whether or not they'll be able to support the game for free or will have to resort to DLCs has yet to be seen. For now, we have a full game and a big universe to explore and that's something to definitely get excited about. For those who love a grand adventure and like supporting indie developers, No Man's Sky should definitely be on your list of games to grab.
