Kim Clavel (16-0, 3 KOs) is not only a champion inside the ring but outside as well, in 2020 she put her boxing career on hold to return to nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic and put herself at risk to help save lives.

She is now ready to focus on boxing again and her main goal is to unify the world titles at light flyweight and she must beat Mexico’s Jessica Nery Plata in her first unification bout.It's a title unification bout in Canada.

A pair of belts are on the line as Kim Clavel and Jessica Nery Plata square off Friday in Laval, Quebec.

The pair had been due to fight on December 1 but the event was put back after Clavel contracted the flu.

Clavel is the reigning WBC female light flyweight champion while Plata holds the equivalent WBA title, making Friday's bout a unification match. Both women will be stepping into the ring for the first time this year, although Montreal native Clavel will have the distinct advantage of fighting on home soil.

The 32-year-old's Canadian's last bout came in July in her hometown, where Clavel defeated Yesenia Gómez by unanimous decision to improve to 15-0-0. Meanwhile, Thursday will be Plata's second consecutive fight outside of her native Mexico, with her most recent bout a split decision victory over Argentina's Yésica Bopp in March that earned 28-year-old Plata the WBA title.

Jessica Nery Plata (28-2, 3 KOs) beat Yessica Bopp to claim the WBA light flyweight title in March of 2022, in her first title defense she will face Clavel in Canada in a unification bout.
