NBA 2K21 is releasing updated player ratings for the game’s move to next-gen consoles next month, and the Lakers are getting a lot of attention on the first day those scores are beginning to trickle out. First, star LeBron James was revealed as the highest-rated player in the game (with Anthony Davis not far behind him). A few of their teammates also had their scores released, too, including Alex Caruso, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Danny Green.

Here are their ratings, per NBA 2K:

Danny Green (76)

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (76)

Alex Caruso (75)

Those first two are fine, but this is an UNCONSCIONABLE snub for our boy Caruso. In this essay, I will explain why we must march upon 2K headquarters and...

Okay, in all seriousness, though, I’m honestly surprised Caruso and Caldwell-Pope didn’t get more of a bump from their play during the Lakers’ title run, Caruso especially. I get that 2K doesn’t always do the best job of factoring in defense to overall player ratings, but Caruso proved himself as one of the best point-guard defenders in the league time and time again. It’s weird that he still somehow feels a little underrated.

And as long as we’re talking about these scores, I’m also a little shocked that Danny Green didn’t take more of a hit after his poor shooting run, but I guess maybe 2K didn’t want to pile on. 76 feels about fair for Green when he’s healthy. Or at least I think so. Let me know how you all feel in the comments.

NBA 2K21 is already out on current consoles, but will also drop PS5 (Nov. 12) and Xbox Series X (Nov. 10) next month. These updated player ratings will be available on both the current and next generation consoles then.

2K has unveiled the first batch of updated player ratings for NBA 2K21. And as is appropriate for how the season turned out, this starts with members of the NBA Champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as other top performers from this year's unusual, pandemic-impacted playoffs.

This first group is headlined by LeBron James, who comes in at a whopping 98, making him the top-rated player in 2K21. That might be thanks in part to winning yet another NBA Finals MVP, but whatever the case, it gives him a clear edge over his teammate, Anthony Davis, who will have a 96 rating. The regular season MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, comes in at a 97, apparently not being heavily impacted by the Bucks' underperformance in the post-season. Despite his young age, Dallas' Luka Dončić isn't far behind these big names, earning himself a 94 rating.

Other members of the Lakers to receive new ratings so far include Danny Green (76), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (76), and Alex Caruso (75). Their opponent in the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat, have seen Jimmy Butler come in at a 93, which is unsurprising given how well he played in the playoffs.
