NBA 2K23: All Takeovers and Which Ones are the Best

Takeovers are special abilities that give you that extra boost to "take over" a game. But you can have up to two active takeovers in NBA 2K23, so you must choose the best takeovers carefully for your player. How to Activate Takeovers?

Once you have filled the Takeover meter to the max, you can see it on top of the screen. It will be hard to miss because the meter will be on fire.

Simply press your action button to activate the takeover meter.

To fill up the takeover meter, you must make good shots, score assists, defend and snag rebounds. Do take note that making bad shots will decrease your takeover meter.

What are the Takeovers Used for?

The Takeover is a gaming mechanic that can help improve performance by filling up a meter through continued good play and dropping when mistakes are made. Having the Playmaking Takeover will increase your Ball Handling, Pass IQ, Speed With Ball, Passing Accuracy, and Vision by up to ten rating points. The great thing about Takeovers is that they can help push you beyond the 99-rating limit. So, if you already have a 99 Ball Handling rating, the Takeover might boost it by ten points, bringing you above the limit at 109 Ball Handling.

1. Spot Up Shooter

This takeover gives your player a better chance of making shots, especially from catch-and-shoot scenarios. With how fast-paced competition is in the Rec, this is one of the best takeovers for shooters in online play. You're only going to get a small window for an open shot, so knocking down as many shots in that small window is paramount.

2. Lockdown Defender

Defense is half the battle in NBA 2K23, so this is easily one of the essential takeovers in the game, specifically online play. This is large because this takeover boosts shot contests, with each shot defended carrying a meter of how good your shot contest is. It will be rated from 0 to 100, and the closer you get to 100, the more likely the other player will miss the shot.

This takeover allows you to read missed shots before they happen and boost your rebounding skills, including boxing out. Another big man essential, Post Scorer, makes a huge difference when trying to push past defenders in the post. It gives you more space to work with when you shoot, as you are stronger when you back down. Once you perform a move like a fadeaway, the shot contest is much lower than it should be. When this takeover is activated, take advantage and post up on every offensive possession in the game.

• Decelerator – Slows down how quickly your opponents achieve Takeover if you guard them closely.

• Minimizer – Opponent's activated Takeovers don't last as long when closely guarded.

• Suppressor – Opponents with an active Takeover receive smaller attribute boosts when you are guarding them.

• Saboteur – When a guarded opponent commits a turnover or bad shot, their Takeover meter gets a larger penalty.

• Second Chance – When Takeover is full but not yet activated, making a mistake won't completely reset the meter.
