The first Marvel: Ultimate Alliance came out over 12 years ago and enabled players for the first time to create their own team made from the Marvel superheroes. These heroes included many of the Avengers and X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Heroes for Hire and solo heroes such as Spider-Man, Daredevil and Blade.

Back in 2006 the first game had a limited roster, but had a storyline that was unique and forced the heroes to join forces to defeat Doctor Doom who had gained near god-like powers. Following the success of the first installment a sequel game was released in 2009, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. The sequel drew from the comics book stories, utilising elements from both the Secret Wars and Civil War plots. The game obviously increased the roster of the heroes to choose from and even added Fusion attacks, where heroes would combine their powers for devastating attacks.

Now, 10 years later, the third game is finally on the way! This time it appears players will be going up against Thanos and his Black Order in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Along with an idea of the plot, simply due to the title and footage in the trailer, it does reveal some of the Marvel characters set to appear.

The confirmed heroes so far include:

Rocket Raccoon, Gamora (confirmed playable), Groot (confirmed playable), Star Lord (confirmed playable), Drax, Iron Man (confirmed playable), Captain America (confirmed playable), Hulk (confirmed playable), Thor (confirmed playable), Spider-Man (confirmed playable), Wolverine (confirmed playable), Nick Fury, Black Widow, Lockjaw, Crystal, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch.

The confirmed villains so far include:

Nebula, Black Dwarf, Corvus Glaive, Supergiant, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Ultron, Sandman, Sentinals, Ronin the Accuser, King Pin, Green Goblin, and Thanos.

This does not mean there will not be more of your Marvel faves in the game, and which characters will be playable are not 100 percent confirmed. While it is highly likely all the heroes listed will be playable, we may even get the odd villain to play as. Nebula for example could switch sides mid-game and ally herself with the heroes. There are also likely to be additional character through additional skins for the playable heroes. The previous games have done this and it could mean we see an alternate skin for Thor as the Jane Foster Thor or Spider-Man in his black Venom suit.

What is interesting is this game is set to be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, which is a first for Marvel. Marvel have had a pattern of either releasing games on multiple platforms or to be exclusive to Playstation. This could indicate a future relationship between the two companies and more Marvel related titles to see exclusive releases on the Nintendo Switch.

What are your thoughts on the game? Do you think it is a mistake to make it exclusive to Nintendo Switch?
