It's Hard Not To Be Excited About Ellie's Revenge In Upcoming 'The Last of Us 2'

Holy crap, you guys. Holy crap. I'm trying to hold back shaking with excitement with every ounce of strength I have in my body as I write this. The Last of Us 2 is really happening.

The Last of Us was a remarkable game that Naughty Dog gifted the world for the PS3 and then a remastered version in the PS4 and people fell in love with it all over again.

Fans have been waiting eagerly for a sequel ever since. For a time it was only rumors and hoaxes that floated around the internet, but now we have solid confirmation. The PlayStation Blog Naughty Dog dropped their trailer for The Last of Us 2 and it is absolutely amazing. Watch it below.

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director and Writer on Uncharted 4 and the first The Last of Us, posted the announcement on the PlayStation Blog stating his excitement for the upcoming installment. It was a sequel that was, for a time, up in the air and even he admitted to that.

"Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey."

A New Story Centered Around Revenge

The trailer opens to the now familiar, desolate world of The Last Of Us and brings us to a room where we see someone trying to calm a shaky hand before strumming a guitar. Most of the shots are tight in to give some sense of suspense as to who the person is but you pretty much already know it's Ellie.

This is beautifully confirmed as Ellie starts singing a folk song revolving around revenge with shots cutting to the couple of people that we can only assume she has killed.

We're then get treated to a guest appearance by Joel who asks Ellie if she really wants to go through with what she's doing to which she gives a single, stern response.

It would seem that over the years Ellie has become become hardened and is now seeking complete and utter revenge on a group of people that have wronged her. How she got to that point is yet unknown as the game is very much in it's "early days" as stated by Druckmann but what's clear is that this installment will be centering around Ellie and I am absolutely all about it.

There's no release date as of yet, but more information will be revealed in the coming months.

"It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months."

So, for the time being, what we have is a fantastic trailer and a whole lot of questions. I can roll with that.
