According to reports, the Indian online gaming sector is rising in popularity. With an increase in users, investments, and enterprises, the mobile gaming market has the potential to become a driver of technical and economic progress.

Industry Figures Shine Light on Growth Trends

Over the last several years, the position of online gaming in India has shifted. Following a succession of lockdowns, an attractive and easily accessible digital market, legal online lottery and gambling platforms have allegedly been bolstered by cheaper cellphones, cheap data, and new daily routines.

Online lottery is one of the most popular legal real-money games (RMG) played on gambling websites in India. However, board games, eSports, and Battle Royale are not far behind. Both RMG and casual games have drawn increased investment from investors, forged industry-wide alliances, and fueled the expansion of India's game production studios.

According to KPMG's Media and Entertainment Report (2020), the present user pool is estimated to be over 365 million online gamers, with Deloitte India valuing it at $2.8 billion (20,000 crores) in mid-2021. Experts agree: the business has enormous potential and is growing at a rate of approximately 40% per year, accounting for 10% of the nation's entire Media and Entertainment economy.

With 13 percent of gaming sessions and traffic originating from within the Union, India is consistently ranked among the top five mobile game marketplaces in the world.

Gamer Profiles, Post-pandemic Trends and Urban-Rural Splits

Without a doubt, the Covid-19 epidemic had an influence not just on world health but also on much of the conventional economy and nearly everyone's everyday activities. Both before and after the sequence of lockdowns, the characteristics of ordinary Indian gamers and online lottery participants were emphasized.

While younger user groups (aged 20 to 40) continue to be the most active, middle-aged and female gamers are on the increase. The divide between urban and rural markets has been narrowing for a few years now, thanks in part to our stay-at-home lifestyles and in large part to the availability of mobile devices and online gaming.

Tier-1 cities are projected to have high player numbers, and young urban (self-employed) professionals account for a sizable portion of online casino customers. Rural customers have made up the deficit thanks to low-cost technology and bandwidth. Both RMG skill gamers and online lottery participants want tailored Indian content and are interested in new technologies.

The Gaming Industry as a Career Choice

In a couple of years, the Indian online gaming sector has seen the number of developer studios increase to over 400. Game designers, VFX and animation artists, sound engineers, different coders, and even game testers are all hired by tech firms in the sectors. A wide range of gaming jobs is both appealing and well-paying.

As a result of spillover effects and partnerships, cloud service providers, marketers, and media specialists have joined the organization. While free-to-play games dominate in terms of total volume, certain creative business models have raised mobile gaming to the status of a key digital media industry. Flexible monetization strategies, next-generation advertising, and content distribution have emerged, bolstering both niche and large market gaming firms.
