Halloween Games to Play on PlayStation in 2026

Best Halloween Games on PS5 and PS4 in 2026, including Free & Paid Picks!

By InkfordPublished about 21 hours ago • 5 min read

Halloween is almost here and I have been looking at some of the best horror games worth playing on PlayStation (mostly on PS5) this year. To be honest, I don't think every Halloween game needs to be terrifying, sometimes I want proper survival horror, sometimes a creepy mystery, and sometimes something I can play with friends while everyone panics over the microphone.

For Halloween 2026, I made a mix pick of new releases, older favourites that still hold up, multiplayer scares, and a few ways to play without buying another full-priced game.

Resident Evil Requiem - My Pick for Serious Horror

If I had to choose one big horror release for Halloween this year, Resident Evil Requiem would be near the top. Capcom’s newest release combines two contrasting styles: a tense survival horror with FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and a more action-driven approach with Leon S. Kennedy.

That contrast is what makes it interesting. You get the slower, uncomfortable moments where you're worried about what is around the next corner, alongside the kind of action Resident Evil fans know well. It is a good choice if you enjoy exploration, combat, and a proper horror story rather than just a collection of jump scares.

Free option: There is a free Resident Evil Requiem demo listed on the PlayStation Store, so I would try that before paying for the full game.

Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f is the one I'd recommend to someone who wants horror that is disturbing rather than simply loud. Its Japanese setting, unsettling imagery, and psychological themes give it a very different personality from Resident Evil.

I like horror games that make ordinary places feel uncomfortable, and that's exactly the appeal here. It's less about feeling powerful and more about being trapped somewhere you really don't want to be.

If you are planning a late-night Halloween session with headphones, this would be high on my list.

The Sinking City 2 Gameplay - Image Spottis.com - www.spottis.com/games/the-sinking-city-2-tips

The Sinking City 2

A flooded city, strange creatures, and a mystery involving supernatural forces. That is a pretty good Halloween setup. The Sinking City 2 takes players into Arkham, where survival horror and exploration come together in a world inspired by H. P. Lovecraft.

What interests me most is the setting. Exploring a city that's slowly being swallowed by water sounds much more unsettling than another abandoned hospital. I would d recommend it to players who enjoy investigating creepy environments and uncovering mysteries.

PlayStation Plus option: Premium/Deluxe members can access a game trial during PlayStation's Halloween HorrorFest. It's a trial, not a free copy of the full game.

Phasmophobia - Best for a Halloween Night With Friends

In case you are playing with friends, Phasmophobia is an obvious choice. You and up to three other players investigate haunted locations, collect evidence, and try to identify the ghost.

Sounds straightforward until someone hears a noise, the lights start flickering, and the entire group suddenly forgets how to behave. What I like about Phasmophobia is that communication matters. You actually need to work together, use your equipment, and pay attention to what's happening. This is likely among the finest options for a Halloween gaming night when everyone seeks shared fear.

The Midnight Walk - Image: Spottis

The Midnight Walk

Well, not everyone wants monsters chasing them for hours. The Midnight Walk is a dark fantasy adventure with puzzles, exploration, and a wonderfully strange visual style.

Its world and characters were shaped in clay and scanned into the game, creating a handcrafted, stop-motion look. This quality alone makes it distinctive.

I would pick this if I wanted something spooky and imaginative rather than constant combat or jump scares. It's also a nice option for anyone who enjoys unusual indie games.

REANIMAL

REANIMAL follows a brother and sister trying to rescue their missing friends from a nightmarish island. The game mixes stealth, puzzles, exploration, and disturbing creatures, with cooperative play at the centre of the experience. It's the sort of horror game I'd choose when I want to share the tension with another player rather than face everything alone.

The environments look deeply unpleasant in the best possible way, and the focus on cooperation gives it a different feel from traditional survival horror. If you are a Little Nightmares series fan, then this game is for you!

Amnesia: The Bunker - Image: RollingStone

Amnesia: The Bunker

Some horror games give you powerful weapons and plenty of ammunition. Amnesia: The Bunker does almost the opposite. You are trapped in a World War I bunker, trying to survive while something dangerous lurks nearby. Resources are limited, darkness is a constant problem, and making noise can have consequences. I think this is a great Halloween pick for people who enjoy slower survival horror where every decision matters.

You might also consider Amnesia if you prefer something unsettling without purchasing a recent release.

Halloween: The Game

A Halloween game based on Michael Myers? It is hard to get more appropriate than that :)

Halloween: The Game lets players experience the horror of Haddonfield, either as the famous masked killer or as residents trying to survive. It includes single-player and asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay, so it's worth considering whether you're playing alone or with friends.

I am especially drawn to the concept of making a familiar horror setting interactive. If you enjoy classic slasher films, this might be the game to launch when October 31 arrives.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 - Free on PS Plus

This is one of the most useful picks on my list if you already have PlayStation Plus. Hunt: Showdown 1896 combines terrifying monsters with the threat of other real players. You enter dangerous environments, hunt supernatural targets, collect bounties, and try to escape alive.

The tension comes from never knowing whether the next danger is a creature or another player. Sony confirmed it as one of October 2026's PlayStation Plus Monthly Games, claimable until November 2, so go and grab it for free!

More Free Horror Games and Trials to Try

If you do not want to spend money this Halloween, there are a few other options worth checking.

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo: Available as a free trial on PS4 and PS5. It's a great way to experience some of the remake's combat and horror without buying the full game.

Resident Evil Requiem Demo: The PlayStation Store lists a free PS5 demo for the 2026 release.

The Sinking City 2 Game Trial: Available through PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe during Halloween HorrorFest. This requires a subscription, so it isn't completely free.

Poppy Playtime: The first chapter is included in the PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalog in the US listing, and Chapter 2 is highlighted in Sony's Halloween catalog. These are subscription benefits rather than permanently free games.

I would check the PlayStation Store in my own region before downloading, since subscriptions, discounts, and availability can differ between countries.

Happy Halloween!
