FC 27 Thunderstruck - What Are We Expecting This Year?
What can we expect from FC 27 Thunderstruck? Live upgrades, surprise player picks, Special SBCs and some more ...

Thunderstruck is one of those Ultimate Team promos where you end up watching football matches you normally wouldn't care about. Not because you've suddenly become a fan of that club, but because you've got one of their players sitting in your squad waiting for an upgrade. And that's exactly what we are hoping to see again in FC 27 Thunderstruck.
What is Thunderstruck in FC Ultimate Team
Thunderstruck, formally titled Black Friday: Thunderstruck, is a promotional event in EA Sports FC Ultimate Team that offers special Player Items upgraded according to real-world football results. The campaign occurs around Black Friday in late November and incorporates limited-time Squad Building Challenges, Objectives, Packs and additional Ultimate Team content - Source: www.fifplay.com/glossary/thunderstruck
Live Upgrades Should Be Back
The big expectation is the return of live upgrades based on real football results. Previous Thunderstruck events have made club performances matter, turning ordinary league fixtures into something Ultimate Team players actually follow.
Hopefully, FC 27 keeps that idea rather than changing the promo into another batch of boosted cards.
Expect Some Hidden Gems
FC fans are expecting a mix of expensive stars and more affordable players. The interesting ones aren't always the biggest names, either. A reasonably priced midfielder playing for a club in good form could be a lot more tempting than a superstar with difficult fixtures ahead. Please, EA, provide some unexpected player selections. We have grown accustomed to promotions led by the same familiar faces.
What About Thunderstruck SBCs & Objectives?
Hopefully, This year, Thunderstruck brings some decent Squad Building Challenges that don't require emptying your entire club. Not every SBC needs to feature a top-rated superstar. Give us a few affordable players who are actually fun to use, especially cards that could improve through live upgrades.
Objectives could be interesting too. Imagine earning a Thunderstruck player by completing a few football-themed challenges rather than spending coins. If EA includes a free promotional card, even better. Just make it someone we would actually want to put in our starting eleven.
A Better Upgrade System, Please!
One thing we would love EA to improve is the upgrade system itself. Make the requirements easy to understand, show progress clearly in-game and do not leave everyone guessing when an upgrade will arrive.
Checking football results is fun. Trying to work out whether your card qualifies shouldn't be a research project.

When Will FC 27 Thunderstruck Arrive?
Thunderstruck has previously been associated with the Black Friday period, so a late-November release would make sense if EA follows a similar schedule.
Nothing should be treated as confirmed until EA announces the dates, players, and upgrade conditions. You can keep an eye on the FC 27 Thunderstruck page at FIFPlay for event information.
Will Thunderstruck Cards Be Really Worth Buying?
That really depends on the players and more importantly the upgrade requirements. One thing I have learned from previous live-upgrade promos is that buying a card based only on its potential can be risky.
A player may appear impressive when their club secures multiple victories, yet such improvements are not assured. Even robust teams can suffer a poor weekend. My suggestion is to review three factors before purchasing: the player’s present attributes, the club’s forthcoming fixtures, and the cost involved.
If the card is already useful without upgrades, that's a good start. If you're paying a huge amount just because you expect future boosts, you might want to think twice. I would say, do not forget that prices can move quickly during promos. Sometimes waiting a little is better than buying during the first wave of excitement.
And How About the Icons?
Another thing I would love to see is the return of special Icons as part of the Thunderstruck theme. Icons always bring extra excitement to Ultimate Team, especially when EA chooses legends who don't receive special versions very often.
Well, nobody is expecting every card to be affordable, obviously. But a good mix of legendary players and current footballers would make the event more interesting. To be fair, a few unexpected Icon selections would feel more engaging than the same small group of legends leading every promotion.
What We Are Really Hoping For ...
Personally, I am hoping for a Thunderstruck promo that makes Friday's new cards exciting and Saturday's football results just as important. That is what makes this event different, and yes, we will probably end up celebrating a last-minute goal from a team we don't even like. Again.
