Escaping Tarkov: Trading

===============================================================

As of last year Escape from Tarkov has become my new video game muse. I absolutely love the modern take on the survival genre and its unique environments that bring a refreshing level of difficulty to the game. I'd like to pass along some information that I feel is going to give even experienced players an edge when trading in Escape from Tarkov.

Traders and Who to Sell To

Alright, the first thing to cover is the traders, as of update 0.7.8.1039 there are six traders in the game. Prapor, Therapist, Fence, Skier, Peacekeeper, and Mechanic. Each trader is different in personality as well as inventory. Because of that, each trader is going to have different prices and quirks. this is what is important to remember...

  • Prapor: Buys ammunition for the highest price.
  • Therapist: Buys misc items, medical supplies, and food for the highest price.
  • Fence: Is the only dealer that will buy knives or hatchets.
  • Skier: Buys firearms, magazines, wearables, and weapons parts for the highest price in rubles.
  • Peacekeeper: Buys firearms and magazines for the highest price in dollars and the highest total value.
  • Mechanic: Buys firearms and magazines for the highest price in euros.

So, based on this if you wanted to make the most money per rifle sold you would strip it of all of its parts, sell the ammo to Prapor, the mags and receiver to Peacekeeper, and the parts to Skier — with any parts Skier won't buy being sold to Peacekeeper. This can net you an extra 20 percent out of each weapon sold. Following this trick I have kept my bank full and have not once been forced to be that under-geared guy in my squad. In fact, anymore my teammates are asking for money all the time, and I have the money to spare.

Leveling

Okay, next is how to level your traders effectively. To level a trader you must reach the minimum level, minimum respect level, and minimum traded value. The traded value confused a lot of people as it looks like minimum spent and that simply is not true. If you make a transaction, either you buying from them or selling to them the value of that transaction is calculated against that number. This means to sell, sell as much as you can. Anything you don't absolutely need when you get back from a raid you need to sell. This will keep your inventory clean and level your traders in the most consistent and effective manner. I personally rarely buy any supplies other than medical supply and have maxed out my traders each update for the last year and a half very quickly.

Overall Currency Value

In Escape from Tarkov there are three forms of currency: rubles, dollars, and euros. Rubles are the least valuable and most plentiful currency in the game, four out of six traders use them as their primary currency. Those traders are Prapor, Therapist, Fence, and Skier. Dollars are the primary currency of Peacekeeper, and euros are used by Mechanic and are a secondary currency for Skier. The scale of value goes as such: rubles>dollars>euros. The exact conversion rate fluctuates consistently so you'll need to look around at the prices of each trader to get an exact set of numbers.

A quick recap on trader's preferred currency.

  • Prapor: Rubles.
  • Therapist: Rubles.
  • Fence: Rubles.
  • Skier: Primarily uses rubles although he also sells a couple things with euros.
  • Peacekeeper: Dollars.
  • Mechanic: Euros.
