Crypto-137, the fun-loving alien

In Destroy All Humans we play as a fun-loving jolly alien name Crypto-137. He enjoys his job and hi job is to destroy all humans. The Furons need DNA to survive since they have been cloning themselves. Apparently, there is Furon DNA on Earth and Earth is teeming with parasites called humans. The humans did what we can expect them to do to Crypto-137's predecessor who crash landed on the planet and now Crypto-137 wants to make the nasty, evil humans pay.

Destroy All Humans remake kept the dialog from the original and improves the graphics. I have never played the original, but I can say I am enjoying this game. The controls are easy to use but there are some improvements. As a noob I did have a hard time remembering what button uses what powers. It could give the alien ship more health and make it easier to replenish the ship’s shields.

Perhaps what I did not like about this game is the same thing I do not like about a lot of games and that is timed missions. A few missions are timed but you can figure those out but it has the one thing that is the absolute worst thing in games and that is escort and protect missions. This game is good enough that you may overlook the difficulty of those missions but keep others alive or protecting something is nearly impossible and takes a dozen or more tries. You will be attacked by waves of enemies and you have to hope what you are protecting survives. This game also has a couple stealth missions which in most games are also very annoying, but you can activate the Holobob can get through many of those. I love the HoloBob.

Crypto-137 is a kindly, peace-loving alien but discovers the human menace on Earth and must do something about it. The United States government blames communist for his actions since the game in set in the 1950’s. This game does not have a dull moment and Crypto-137, like me, makes it known he does not like sneaking and just wants to destroy all humans. Crypto-137 knows how dangerous humans are and deals with them properly when his commander gives him a chance. He knows that humans will stab you in the back if given a chance or on the slightest provaction.

Destroy All Humans takes us back to the 1950’s, when McArthurism was high and fear of the Soviet Union was higher. People of today have forgotten the dangers of Communism but that is not what this game is about. It is about the Furons trying to save their species and they need to retrieve Furon DNA from the humans that was left there during some encounter a few Furons had with the local humans a few centuries earlier.

In Destroy All Humans we get an assortment of weapons, but I mainly stayed with the shocker because I liked watching the humans suffer and I enjoyed the ray gun that burned people alive. The fastest way to replenish your is to pull out the brains of the inferior humans but your health will regenerate slowly over time. Your ship shields do not regenerate, and you must hover about a vehicle and use them to replenish your shields. You can also shoot explosive mines, but I felt they were more useful with the mechs.

Although the game may be short it will take a noob many hours to finish and most missions are quick and easy but the timed and escort missions will take many trials. Overall, this game is worth your time. It is fun and enjoyable like the popcorn flicks of the ‘80’s.
