Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been an integral member of the Chennai Super Kings' squad since the very first edition of 2008 when he was named the franchise's captain after leading India to T20 World Cup glory. However, in recent years rumours of his retirement from the game for good have been swirling around after the wicketkeeper-batsman hung up his boots from the international arena in 202.

For now, however, all such thoughts have been put to rest following a Johns Benny report stating the organization's Chief Executive Officer, Kasi Viswanathan, has declared the 41-year-old will continue to be in charge of on-field affairs in the Indian Premier League's next edition as well.

Dhoni in the past has led the Yellow Army to four IPL titles, making them the second most successful team in the tournament after the Mumbai Indians. However, last season the leadership role was handed over to ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after Dhoni quit from the role, despite the side having tasted title success in the previous edition.

Nevertheless, Jadeja failed in his short stint at the helm managing only two victories in eight games, following which he gave up the duty and Dhoni was reinstated as skipper. Eventually, Chennai finished towards the bottom of the table with just two more wins in their remaining six games. Recently, there have been reports of rift between Jadeja and the organization, which may cause the duo to split ways and maybe a reason behind Dhoni staying captain.

The 16th edition of the IPL is scheduled to begin in April 2023 and it will be interesting to see how Dhoni and co. fare this time around.

While Dhoni had earlier said that will definitely be around in Yellow jersey but whether it will be this Yellow or another is something that fans will have to wait and watch. However, at the toss befo . . .

“There is no change in our stance. We never said that there will be a change,” Kasi told InsideSport making it clear that Dhoni will continue as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2023 as well. Chennai have won the titles four times in the past under Dhoni, and the last one being IPL 2021.

As per a report by journalist Johns Benny, Chennai Super Kings' CEO has proclaimed MS Dhoni will remain their captain for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. He had reprised the role midway through last season after Ravindra Jadeja had given up the duty to focus on his own game.

adeja handed overs the captaincy reins back to Dhoni, who took over the captaincy duties for the remainder of the season in the greater interest of the team.

But, more importantly, this confirmation from the franchise CEO also means Dhoni will be playing in IPL 2023. At the end of the last couple of IPL seasons, his availability for the next IPL always comes under a cloud. He normally hints at returning back, but does not confirm if it is in the form of a player or a member of the coaching staff or likewise.

With him at the helm of affairs from last season, one can expect CSK to bounce back from a poor IPL last season. There is genuine respect for Dhoni in the dressing room and the top management at CSK. Besides he is a huge fan favourite and everyone addresses him as Thala, meaning leader.

The team has always been at their best when the IPL is played in in its home and away format. The same format is expected to be applied in IPL 2023, which makes it interesting for all eight teams, especially Dhoni and his men. Chennai become a force to be reckoned with, especially at their home turf in Chidambaram Stadium.

However, it will be interesting to see what happens with Jadeja. The former captain and CSK as per reports in the past few months suggest that the two are not in talking terms as well after IPL 2022. The all-rounder has also deleted social media posts from his account. At the end of the season, Jadeja also withdrew from IPL, citing injury.
