Built a Zoo in Minecraft
Built a Zoo for Real Life Animals in Minecraft

One of my biggest dreams in Minecraft is for Mojang to add more wild animals. So today, I installed a bunch of mods that added over 36 real-life animals into my hardcore world. My goal?Capture every single one and build them a massive zoo.
I started by looking for forest animals, beginning with the brown bear, which appears in taiga biomes.
After finding one and leading it home, I realized I didn’t actually have a zoo yet.So I found a large open area, changed the land, and built a giant zoo with separate enclosures for every animal.
The bear became my first resident with a custom taiga habitat.
Next, I searched for a deer, but quickly found out that putting it in the same enclosure as the bear was a bad idea—the bear ate it right away. After rescuing a second deer, I built it its own peaceful forest habitat and even earned its trust by feeding it apples.
The final forest animal was the porcupine.
After some searching, I found one, befriended it with apples, and discovered it could sit and even teleport to me like a pet.It earned a cozy flower-filled enclosure with a soft leafy nest.
With the forest section done, I moved on to the African safari animals.
Deep in the jungle, I found gorillas, which turned out to be much more aggressive than I expected. After calming them with carrots and surviving their wild behavior, I brought them home and built a lush jungle habitat.
In the savanna, I immediately spotted giraffes and zebras.
I even managed to ride a giraffe after feeding it a golden apple.Along the way, I also found adorable meerkats, followed by lions and massive elephants, each receiving their own safari-style exhibits with dry grass, rooted dirt, and plenty of space.
Next came the swamp animals.
I tracked down tortoises, giant snails, and eventually an alligator hidden in a mangrove swamp.Capturing the alligator was one of the first truly dangerous challenges, but after a long struggle, I safely transported it back and created custom swamp habitats using green wool, lily pads, mushrooms, and shallow water.
The ocean animals proved even trickier.
I collected bass, catfish, a stubborn bull shark, and a friendly group of manatees. The shark took an incredibly long time to lure home, but eventually every aquatic creature received its own ocean-themed exhibit.
For the reptiles, I hunted down three different snakes: a normal snake, a rattlesnake, and a colorful coral snake, along with a lizard.
Transporting several venomous snakes at once without dying was a challenge all on its own, but I eventually built them a dry desert enclosure with sand and rocks.
The zoo also needed birds.
I collected cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, finches, robins, ducks, vultures, and finally an owl during the night. Each bird received custom trees and nests, though I had to keep many of them on leads so they wouldn’t fly away.
The snow biome added even more variety.
I found a sleeping snow leopard, tamed it with chicken, then collected a narwhal and a harp seal before building a snowy habitat complete with ice and snow-covered terrain.
To finish the smaller exhibits, I gathered insects including dragonflies, butterflies, and fireflies, creating special bug enclosures to prevent them from despawning.
That left only the most dangerous animals.
Back in the savanna, I captured a rhino and a notoriously aggressive hippo, which repeatedly tried to attack me until I distracted it with melons.
Then I ventured underground to find the terrifying giant centipede.
It nearly killed me with poison before I barely escaped and trapped it inside a massive glass enclosure.
After that came the deadly anaconda lurking in the swamp.
Watching it crush pigs and chickens was horrifying, and it repeatedly wrapped around me, nearly suffocating me before I finally managed to bring it back to the zoo.
The final challenge was the largest animal in the entire mod: the blue whale.
Before searching for it, I built an enormous ocean enclosure.Finding the whale was easy—moving it home was not.Since it wouldn’t come onto land, I had to repeatedly lure it with water, slowly dragging the massive creature all the way back to the zoo. After an incredibly long journey and a few close calls, I finally guided it into its enclosure.
With that, every single animal had been captured, and my dream Minecraft zoo was finally complete.
Unfortunately, because this was a heavily modded world, I couldn’t safely keep the animals permanently without risking world corruption.
Once the project was finished, I reverted the world back to vanilla Minecraft, which removed all the custom creatures. It was still an unforgettable adventure, and if you’d like to see more modded hardcore challenges in the future, let me know!
