We are currently in June, which means that we are half way through the year and already we have seen the release of many great games! But what about those that are due to be released later this year and early next year?

Here are my Top 6 games that are on my Wishlist and why they should be on yours, if not already.

1. The Callisto Protocol

  • Genre: Horror
  • Developer: Striking Distance Studios
  • Release Date: 2nd December 2022
  • Format: PS4 , PS5, PC, XBOX

From the creators of Dead Space, a new horror has been released in the darkest depths of Space. This new horror game will have you screaming, ducking and diving as well as wishing for the horror to end. With links to Dead Space in terms of mechanics and tension, there is no doubt in my mind that this game will be a big seller!

Plot

Something horrifying has been released on one of Jupiter's moons; Callisto and its up to us to survive and hopefully not crap ourselves. We follow the story of Jacob Lee, a prisoner in Black Iron Prison as he tries to escape the prison as well as the horror that grips the moon in this futuristic fear fueled hell. So far, not much of the story has been released and Jacob is a bit of a mystery, but no doubt we will soon get to know him and the evil that hides in the shadows. Just like Dead Space, we are met with formidable enemies and environments that will have us wanting and praying for light.

Features

Because this game is made by the creators of Dead Space it is likely we will see some sort resemblance to that game. So far we have sci-fi weapons that work the same way as Dead Space, but a little addition is the use of Melee weapons such as pipes and hammers, these will have us thrashing and bashing enemies just to save those precious little bullets.

We also have gruesome death animations! oh yes, you will see face-to-face blood, guts, bones and the ripping off of heads. But these just wont be by the enemies, the environment will also be responsible for our deaths...step to close to that fan blade and you can guarantee that your blood and guts will be painting the walls.

No map will available, our health bar will be established on the back of our necks and the ammo count will only be seen when aiming our weapons, this is to allow us to truly observe and take in as much of the environment as possible, so watch out for those dark corners and enjoy your death in 4K.

Another feature that i thought was a bit weird but interesting; is that the game is set in the PUBG universe! Don't worry, the game is not actually set in PUBG itself, just 100 years after it.

I am truly excited for this game to be released and cannot wait for it to unleash hell onto my screen. You can check out a demo for it here:

2. Dead Space Remake

  • Genre: Horror
  • Developer: EA Motive
  • Release Date: 27th January 2023
  • Format: PS5, PC, XBOX

Yes! One of the best horror games to ever grace our presence is finally getting a remake! The much loved Dead Space is coming back, better then ever. The game was first released in 2008 and had 2 more sequels made after it. Having waited 14 years for this game to be updated you can only imagine the happiness and excitement that I am feeling right now!

This re-design of the game will test the new consoles and bring forward new horror and gameplay that wasn't possible on PS3.

Plot

Issac Clarke our favourite Space Engineer has returned once again and we find ourselves on board the USG Ishimura, a planet cracker that has sent out an S.O.S Signal and its up to him and his team to investigate what has happened. From the very beginning it's very obvious that Hell has been let loose and something evil stalks the shadows, ready to rip us apart.

While trying to get the ship up and running again, Issac searches tirelessly for his girlfriend that is a nurse on board on the ship, he hasn't heard nor seen any sign of her apart from a message asking for help, it is unsure if the Necromoprhs that stalk the ship have to got to her or she is hiding somewhere for us to find and rescue, but one thing is for certain....you will crap yourself.

Features

Apart from a complete rework and updated graphics, the story has also had an update as well as new jump scares. New emphasis on dark corners has been taken advantage of and new dark and suspenseful atmospheres has been added for us to enjoy. Make sure to add this to your wish list.

3. Stray

  • Genre: Explore/ Puzzle
  • Developer: Bluetweleve Studio
  • Release Date: 19th July 2022
  • Foremat: PS4 , PS5 , PC

Now, if you've always wanted to scratch sofas, knock things off table tops and just want to be generally annoying while looking cute doing it, then this is the game for you. Having drawn inspiration from the studio's own cats, this game is new and inventive, it's just so cute.

With it's minimal dialogue, the narrative is found in the environment and the actions of those that surround you. For this game, very few words speak volumes as the world is the one that tells the story, each street and building is a new chapter and each tail flick is gripping.

Plot

Very little is known about the plot, all that has been released so far is that this little ginger kitty has taken a tumble and has landed in a subterranean city full of robots and something dark is pulling the strings. With the help of a little robot traveler, we have to find a way back home.

The little ginger cat is currently un-named so feel free to name him whatever you want, hopefully we will get a name soon but so far, the choice is up to you.

Features

Because this game is one of a kind, its only natural that we will see some exciting things.

With movement and mechanics, the developer wanted the movements to mimic that of an actual cat, therefore, slick and light controls have been introduced, a prompt will show itself so you can time your jumps perfectly, just like a cat.

An interactive environment brings the possibility for enjoyable exploration as well as interactive characters that will make the story more enticing and lovable. You can trip up robots, send roof tiles flying in every direction and scratch up a robot's furniture...overall, you can just be a menace.

The controller is also interactive and purrs and meows can be heard form the controller and when given the option to scratch something the controller will vibrate. The game also has a button dedicated to just Meowing... I am going to be heavily distracted by that.

Cinematics don't fix the character in place so you can still be an annoying little kitty while something serious is going on. The game literally lets you embody a cat!

4. Resident Evil 4 Remake

  • Genre: Horror/ Action
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Release Date: 24th March 2023
  • Format: PS5, PC, XBOX, PSVR2 (TBC)

Yeah...another one. Just like the Resident Evil 2 and 3, 4 is now also getting a remake. I for one don't think this legendary game requires a remake, but considering Resident Evil is my all time favourite game series, I naturally reserved a spot for it on my wish list.

When the game was first released in 2005 for PS2, Gamecube and PC, it took the world by storm. With its brand new 'Over the shoulder' camera and story, this game quickly rose to the top.

Plot

6 years after the 'Raccoon City Incident' Leon. S. Kennedy finds himself in a rural and forgotten part of Europe searching for the President's daughter; Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped by a religious cult. It's up to Leon to find her. We search through a run down old village, a castle run by a devious owner and an island where dark and evil experiment were conducted.

As the story progress, Leon comes across formidable enemies, unlikely allies and a ghost from his past. If you haven't played the original, I recommend you do so before this releases, it will be so much easier for you.

Features

A complete redesign of game brings new graphics, darker and scarier environments, updated faces and new voice actors. and for those who have played the original game...a less annoying Ashley Graham!! Thank you Capcom.

PSVR 2 gameplay is also being discussed, it is not yet confirmed whether a VR version of the game will be released but hopes remain high.

When RE4 was first released, it lost most of it's horror features and introduced more action packed gameplay, Capcom have decided to go back to it's roots and brought more puzzles and horror.

In the original game, we saw repeated skins and identical enemies, now each enemy will have a unique look and news ways to kill them.

I am excited for this and cant wait to see the new Leon in action. You can check out the trailer here:

5. Gotham Knights

  • Genre: Action/ Superhero/ Open World
  • Developer : Warner Bros Games Montreal
  • Release Date: 25th October 2022
  • Format: PC, PS5, XBOX

Graduating from Superhero University, the Gotham Knights are ready to show Gotham that it is still well protected, even with Batman gone. This game doesn't continue on from the Arkham series, which ended with Arkham Knight, this game is stand-alone; it is also separate from the Arkhamverse, even though the same studio make Arkham Origins.

Warner Bros has brought us a new open world RPG for any DC fan to enjoy. I'm just praying that the Riddler trophies are easier to find.

Plot *SPOILERS FROM ARKHAM KNIGHT*

Following on from the Arkham Knight and the death of Batman and Commissioner Gordan, the Gotham knights are what stands between Gotham and the criminals that seek to taint it.

Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and The Red Hood team up to stop Gotham's infamous villains from destroying what Batman built. With the help from Alfred and GCPD Detective Montoya, the Gotham Knights seek out those criminals and try to put a stop to them. As the night goes on it's obvious that somebody else is running the show. The Court of Owls, who have been running Gotham from behind the curtain finally make an appearance and their intentions are as of yet, unknown. It is not yet known whether the Justice League will make an appearance, although they exist within the same universe.

Features

This new game introduces a 2 player Co-op mode, you can team up with your partner in justice to take on any mission and any enemy that the game throws at you. 4 player co-op has been suggested but it is to be confirmed whether Warner Bros are going to include it in the game.

Gotham is bigger than ever! In Arkham Knight we got to explore Gotham and it's five boroughs, but now there's even more to explore! new locations, new boroughs, (hopefully) a new set of Riddler Trophies to find, new skyscrapers to dive off and new alley ways to prowl through. Explore to your heart's content.

It has been announced the skill tree from previous games has been ditched, as each player has a different play style and it didn't feel right to limit them. Each playable character has a different fighting style, therefore each player can fight based on the character's preference. Gear, weapons and skills are split between each character, as well as health and stats.

Each level is made so that any character can complete it, it's not limited to one specific character, so you can always go back and replay that level again but with a different character and see what they would've done differently.

I was and still am a massive fan of the Arkham series and continue to play it many times, so I am excited to see what this game contains. Be sure to add this to your Wish List.

6. The Last Of Us Part 1 Remake

  • Genre: Survival
  • Developer: Naughty Dog
  • Release Date: 2nd September 2022
  • Format: PS5 (others TBC)

This gritty, heart wrenching, lovable survival game is getting a revival. Being rebuilt from the ground up, new graphics and new mechanics are being introduced. I for one don't think this game needs a new remake considering we got a remaster 1 year after the original was released, but with a new generation of consoles being released it will be nice to see what the updated graphics will bring to the stage.

The only thing that has me wanting to wait a bit longer is the fact that the game is estimated to be about £70 in price...yep, my wallet started screaming too.

Plot

Naughty Dog has stated that it will follow the original story.

A fungus has run rampant in America (shocker), those infected turn ravenous and murderous. But one girl is immune to this fungus and is the key to a vaccine. Joel Miller is tasked with the job to escort Ellie across America to a hospital ran by a rebel group called the Fireflies, and help establish a vaccine. Along the way they will make allies and enemies. Bonds will be made and also broken. Allies will help while enemies seek to kill. The story will send you on a rollercoaster of emotions and the gameplay will make you think that you are truly in the game.

Beautiful scenery will having you stop take a breath and soak in the beauty and the suspenseful atmosphere will also have you holding your beath, too scared to make a single sound.

Features

While TLOU 1 was a major success it's mechanics felt a bit clunky, Naughty Dog have stated that this remake will contain the mechanics of TLOU Part2, slicker movement, immersive environments and faster dodging.

New remake means a new face design. With the updated graphics and 4K screens, new faces with greater detail are on the plate for us to enjoy. More beautiful environments for us to gawp at and sounds for us loose ourselves in.

Because its being remade for the newer generation of consoles and PCs, players can now enjoy the game of 60FPS. Faster loading and the less likely hood of hitches and glitches.

I've been a long time fan of this game and we can all agree that it will be continue to be popular for many years to come. You can watch the trailer here:
